Baskets from Bamboos in Uganda 🇺🇬
Today, I would like to share with you some of the lifestyles people live in here through basket weaving. These are Bamboo plants mostly known to be the best food for the gorillas and the golden monkeys here.
But it can also be planted in your field, the local people use their stems to make beautiful baskets and also other nice looking art crafts like granaries.
Today morning,I have visited one of the oldest man (Mzee) well famed for the weaving the best baskets in the region, his name is Charles. Here is starting the bottom part of the basket.
The Bamboo stem is cut and split into small portions and are left in-house not to dry for easy bending while weaving.
In a day, only one basket is completely woven.
You can take a look at these already completed ones, looking very nice and beautiful that actually reflects the real African traditional life.
Such art crafts are usually done by the oldest people in the community.
The baskets here are used by the locals to store some cereals but mostly it's used for visits. For example, one can get some nice yellow bananas 🍌 🍌 and cover them inside and the top is wrapped in a beautiful "Kitenge" cloth, then it's taken to your friend on a visit.
I'm learning to weave some here also😄
Thank you for reading my post.
Nice craft
Thanks @rdradhe
Welcome
It's quite tough to learn.
Hahaha 😄, sure, it's not all that simple..it could take some really good time to start making nice baskets, these old men just grew up while their fathers were teaching them, but still they tell you to get used, you must always be around and takes time😄 The only thing I can make nicely is a beehive for honey 🐝🍯. But I'm trying to learn these difficult baskets🤣
