MOST BEAUTIFUL SOUTH AFRICAN BOTANICAL GARDENS [EN/PL]
During many trips to South Africa I’ve had a pleasure to visit some of the most beautiful botanical gardens.
Podczas wielu podróży do Afryki Południowej miałam przyjemność odwiedzić jedne z najpiękniejszych ogrodów botanicznych.
The ones that I always include in my agenda are Company’s Garden in Cape Town,
Kirstenbosch, The Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden in Johannesburg, Durban Botanical Gardens and the famous Garden Route that I have mentioned in the previous posts.
These are just some of the bigger and better-known botanical gardens in South Africa. There is of course many other, smaller ones - but just as beautiful.

To tylko niektóre z większych i lepiej znanych ogrodów botanicznych w Południowej Afryce. Jest oczywiście wiele innych, mniejszych - ale równie pięknych.
The Gate in Company‘s Garden
It’s worth to mention that South Africa has 9 National Botanical Gardens, managed by the South African National Biodiversity Institute. Together, they conserve over 7,400 ha of natural vegetation and associated biodiversity within their boundaries, they are considered to be amongst the best in the world, especially in terms of floral diversity and the conservation of endangered indigenous plants.
Warto wspomnieć, że Republika Południowej Afryki ma 9 Narodowych Ogrodów Botanicznych, zarządzanych przez Narodowy Instytut Różnorodności Biologicznej RPA. Łącznie chronią one ponad 7400 ha naturalnej roślinności i związanej z nią różnorodności biologicznej w swoich granicach, są uważane za jedne z najlepszych na świecie, szczególnie pod względem różnorodności kwiatowej i ochrony zagrożonych rodzimych roślin.

South Africa is ranked 6th out of the world’s 17 mega diverse countries as so many of the species found here are endemic to the region.
These varied habitats allow for great biodiversity in animal, bird, reptile, insect and plant species.
Republika Południowej Afryki zajmuje szóste miejsce na świecie spośród 17 krajów o zróżnicowanej naturze, ponieważ wiele gatunków tu występujących jest endemicznych dla regionu.
Te zróżnicowane siedliska pozwalają na dużą różnorodność biologiczną gatunków zwierząt, ptaków, gadów, owadów i roślin.
In the middle of Cape Town, just at the back of the Parliament building, one can find a park with small vegetable garden and number of interesting buildings like Planetarium, South African Museum and Gallery. So always when I’m visiting, I never pass up an opportunity to jump into one of my favourite restaurants in the ‘Mother city’.
W samym centrum Kapsztadu, tuż za budynkiem Parlamentu, znajduje się park z małym ogrodem warzywnym i wieloma interesującymi budynkami, takimi jak Planetarium, Muzeum Południowej Afryki i Galeria. Zawsze więc, gdy odwiedzam, nigdy nie przepuszczę okazji, aby wskoczyć do jednej z moich ulubionych restauracji w ‘miescie matce’.

Company's Garden is the oldest garden in the country. It has it’s origins in Jan van Riebeeck’s vegetable garden, which he grew to feed the original colony as early as 1652, but a little closer to the coast. In a bid to plant in more fertile soil, on ground sheltered from the wind, he moved his garden with its northern boundary on Wale Street, and this is where it stands today. https://www.sa-venues.com/attractionswc/company-gardens.htm
Company's Garden to najstarszy ogród w kraju. Jego początki sięgają ogrodu warzywnego Jana van Riebeecka, który hodował aby żywic pierwotną kolonię już w 1652 roku, lecz nieco bliżej wybrzeża. Company's Garden
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden
Established in 1913 and proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.
Kirstenbosch Garden is the most famous botanical garden, nestled against the eastern slopes of Table Mountain. Combined with amazing views, offers a truly remarkable opportunity to get into the natural environment of the towering mountains.
The wonderful Protea displays & indigenous Fynbos, makes it most unique and brings the garden fame.

Założony w 1913 roku i ogłoszony w 2004 roku Światowym Dziedzictwem UNESCO.
Ogród Kirstenbosch to najbardziej znany ogród botaniczny, położony na wschodnich zboczach Table Mountain. W połączeniu z niesamowitymi widokami, oferuje naprawdę niezwykłą okazję, aby dostać się do naturalnego środowiska w wysokich górach.
Wspaniałe okazy Protea i miejscowego Fynbos czynia to miejsce wyjątkowe i przynosi mu sławę.

Durban Botanic Gardens in KwaZulu-Natal is located in the centre of the city in a subtropical climate. Remains the oldest surviving botanic garden on the African continent -That is, 450 years

Roaming between tall palm trees, one eventually comes to the part where the permaculture garden is. As one of the ‘green’ initiatives within the garden the living beehive was build to assist in educating about the future of biodiversity.
Nearby the great Fig tree that looks like a monster from a different galactic with it’s branches reaching the ground, lies a small pond covered in lotus flowers attracting many colourful birds.
There is also a pavilion hosting the orchid collection, all around 9000 plants and the of the rarest and ancient plants in the world Wood’s Cycad.
Wędrując między wysokimi palmami, dochodzi się w końcu do części, w której znajduje się ogród permakultury. Jako jedna z "zielonych" inicjatyw w ogrodzie zbudowano chatę - beehive, aby pomóc w edukacji na temat przyszłości różnorodności biologicznej.
W pobliżu wielkiego drzewa figowego, które wygląda jak potwór z innej galaktyki sięgający gałęziami ziemi, leży mały staw pokryty kwiatami lotosu, przyciągający wiele kolorowych ptaków.
Znajduje się tu także pawilon, w którym spoczywa okazała kolekcja orchidei, około 9000 roślin, oraz najrzadsze i najstarsze rośliny na świecie – Cycady Woodsa.

The Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden
Located just outside South-West Johannesburg.
Formed in 1982, the site has been a popular park with many visitors ,tourists as well as locals, just enjoying their time sightseeing or picnicking. It’s youngest of South African National Botanical Gardens.One of the biggest highlights, are the designated bird zones that provide a safe haven for different species away from human interaction, allowing them to feed, nest and breed in a safe environment. It is home to a well known birds of prey pair ,the Verreaux’s eagles.
There is also many hiking trails that offers opportunity to learn about the interesting geology of the area walking to the top of the waterfall.
Narodowy Ogród Botaniczny Waltera Sisulu
Położony na obrzeżach południowo-zachodniego Johannesburga.
Założony w 1982 r. Miejsce to jest popularnym parkiem z licznymi odwiedzającymi, turystami oraz miejscowymi, cieszącymi się zwiedzaniem lub piknikowaniem. To najmłodszy z Południowoafrykańskich Narodowych Ogrodów Botanicznych.
Jedną z największych atrakcji są wyznaczone strefy dla ptaków, które zapewniają bezpieczną przystań dla różnych gatunków z dala od interakcji człowieka, co pozwala im się żywic, gniazdować i hodować w bezpiecznym środowisku. Jest domem dla dobrze znanej pary ptaków drapieżnych, orłów Verreaux.
Również wiele szlaków turystycznych, które oferują możliwość poznania ciekawej geologii obszaru, w drodze na szczyt wodospadu.

Combining grassland, woodland, water, bushveld to cliff face, the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden offers the visitor a true variety of natural African habitats.
Łącząc łąki, lasy, akweny wodne, pola krzewów i klify, Narodowy Ogród Botaniczny Waltera Sisulu oferuje odwiedzającym prawdziwą różnorodność naturalnych afrykańskich siedlisk.

As I mentioned these are only some of the magnificent gardens and parks. In my opinion the biodiversity of South Africa can be characterised in one sentence. It's the whole world in one country.
Jak już wspomniałem, są to tylko niektóre ze wspaniałych ogrodów i parków. Moim zdaniem różnorodność biologiczną w RPA można scharakteryzować jednym zdaniem. To cały świat w jednym kraju.
