Windows 10: Microsoft Putting Artificial Intelligence in Response to Computer Attacks

in #technology9 years ago

In the past two months we have seen a pair of malicious software of considerable magnitude compromising the operation of computers in several countries of the world. In May, WannaCry. This week, the Petya ranking has wreaked havoc on systems. Protecting nearly half a billion computers against such advanced threats as these are incredibly difficult, that's why Microsoft's next Windows 10 size update will include anti-malware protection, powered by Artificial Intelligence (IA).

This will be the next major evolution of Windows Defender, which has evolved a lot since it began to take shape in 2004. In 2017, an anti-malware application can not be content with simple updates. Today, security software must be smarter. They must be able to observe the task at which your computer is busy, collect and interpret clues, and then use this information to determine when a malicious object will act and intervene before a disastrous thing happens.

Of course, data coming from a computer does not provide the anti-virus with what to do miracles. Microsoft has, however, a more substantial element on which to base itself: collective intelligence drawn from around 400 million Windows systems.

Avi Sagiv of Microsoft explains that "cloud-based security intelligence" puts users from a world of isolated defenses to an intelligent, interconnected, and coordinated defense network. "

AI, inspired by the cloud, will be able to act in the face of suspicious activity such as spyware or a macro in a Word document trying to download files from the Internet for example. Unknown hitherto unknown malware can be identified and neutralized faster than ever before.

However, not even AI supported by the power of half a billion Windows 10 computers will stop each of the new threats it encounters ... but this will most certainly make a big difference in the fight against malware. For those who have not yet switched to Windows 10, the improved defenses coming this fall should be a strong incentive to get started.
