Walkin' in a Winter Wonderland #4!

Why do we live in a land that is winter an average of 6 months out of the year? A land that can literally kill us from cold? A place where the air is so cold it takes our breath away?

Well, I mean, you guys have some scary fucking bugs in the south. Big bugs. Arachnids that can kill you. We have Brown Recluse, about 3 hours atta way (points south). But typically the bugs here cannot do any serious harm.

And reptiles. You can keep your 8 foot long alligators, thanks.

But really, it's because when we aren't falling on ice and getting frost bite on our cheeks, we're marvelling at the beauty of it all.

Nature is pretty freaking tough. Can you survive being frozen all winter? I can't. But the plants will come back to life come April. The frogs and turtles will come out from under the ponds. The bears and skunks will come out of hibernation.

It's a wonderous cycle to be witness to each year. And for real. Bugs.

It's snowing again this morning. And the rain from yesterday has left the roads and sidewalks icy death traps. Ever wanted to know what a broken hip looks like?

^^^ Kinda looks like that. Actually, it was a sidewalk just like that that broke Little Wilow's clavical last winter. She still has a bump in that spot.

Winter also sometimes looks like this.

Getting to work on time but not being able to clock in because they are slow and "need to cut hours."

I work for a company that makes millions of dollars and I can't get my $12 an hour when we're slow due to weather conditions. Still gotta pay the rent, guys. 😒

Depending on how things go, we'll try to do a #walkwithme out at Lincoln Park this coming weekend. Some of the trails might not be safe, the steep hills covered in ice isn't my idea of a good time. But, if the weather breaks it might be okay, and I want to see those water falls in winter!

Time to get cracking on some writing. Keep plugging away and maybe someday I'll be published!
