There are a lot of knobs that you can turn within the Logic Pro X DAW interface. First there's the interface itself, with all kinds of options... but then on top of that, each individual synth has hundreds of different settings to tinker with.

You can route one sound into another effect in all kinds of different ways. There are options for having these parameters change over time, either with each note or on a preprogrammed path that follows the song. The end result is a profound number of possible sounds that can be created.

It's not easy to turn these possibilities into a real track. I often have no idea what direction to go in when I have the tabula rasa in front of me. For this beat, the idea was to play with detuned synths that slowly come into tune, after a second or two of holding out the note.

It results in an interesting synth pad effect... a neat sound. I wanna mess with it some more.

Beats have been a lot of fun. My goal was to do a new beat every two days in November and I accomplished that goal with only maybe one or two delayed posts.

Making new beats all of the time is a great way to get better at production. I got to explore all kinds of new sounds and techniques. With that said, I am looking forward now to investing more time into full songs and working on a lot of new material with The Walding Family first and foremost.

Being in a band is the most fun form of music for me... always has been.
