Missouri Wildflower Series - Dayflower
Commelina erecta
The Dayflower is a perennial plant that blooms from May to October. Each flower lasts only a day. Flowers are made up of 2 rounded, blue petals, one teeny tiny white petal and 6 stamens.
We have the non-native, Asian version, Commelina communis, in our flower garden on the south side of the house. The flowers are smaller, leaves are smaller, and they have shorter stems. They are also annuals, and so must reseed themselves every year.
