The Moon is moving away from us
Why the days on Earth lasted 18 hours (and are still lengthening)
1.400 billion years ago, Earth days lasted just over 18 hours, according to a new study that reconstructs the history of the relationship between the Moon and Earth. Changes in the distance of the Moon have been affected for millions of years as the Earth rotates on its axis.
"As the Moon recedes, the Earth is like a spinning skater who slows down by stretching her arms." -Stephen Meyers-
The Solar System has many components in motion and small variations can propagate in great changes over millions of years, something that is known as the "chaos of the solar system". Meyers deciphered keys of that chaos studying rocks of a formation of 90 million years, but the calculations for previous times were not reliable.
