5 billion barrels of oil backed "the petro" (Venezuelan cryptocurrency)
About 5 billion barrels of oil from the Orinoco oil belt were officially approved as support for the Petro crypto currency, announced Nicolás Maduro, president of the Republic.
"I grant them a mixed company that supports the Petro to support their actions," Maduro said during a speech he made this Wednesday in Caracas.
He added that each petro will equal one barrel of oil. He noted that the barrels are in Block Ayacucho I of the Oil Belt.
On December 3, Venezuela became the first country in the world to create a cryptocurrency controlled by a government.
Since then only the National Superintendence of El Petro was created, which since December 8 is chaired by Carlos Vargas, member of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC).
With a view to gold:
Maduro said that in the next few days they will certify gold and diamond fields located in the Mining Arc (Bolívar state) to expand Petro's support.
Earlier the Minister for Mining Development, Víctor Cano, presented in the plenary of the ANC a bill for the development and exploitation of the Orinoco Mining Arc, although only the National Assembly, with an opposition majority, is empowered to dictate laws.
