What is Steem Power? VESTS?
Hi steemianos I hope you have a good weekend, I imagine that as I wonder what is the Steem Power (SP) ?, doing a little research finally understand it and I come to share it with you in the simplest way.
Friends Steem Power we can see as our actions in steemit, as well as read actions and is that if it is analyzed from the point of view that we are all shareholders and many things begins to make sense.
Let's start by being clear about how the SP is calculated, on this page https://steemd.com/@hendersonp (Change my user for yours) we can find what our SP really represents, which are the VESTS (our actions), have the amount multiply by steem_per_mvests that information gives us https://steemd.com in my case would be 37,640.664412 VESTS * 489,543 = 18,426,723,778 to this result we run the decimal point 6 digits to the left and voila we have our SP 18,426.
Knowing this I think it makes a lot of sense that our vote is worth more as we have more SP because we understand that we have more shares of steemit, in any company the more shares you have, the more influential when decisions are made, in steemit the decisions we make directly is to value the content created by other shareholders and naturally among more actions we have more powerful $ will be our vote.
By understanding this I also know what POWER UP is, when we do power up we are buying VESTS with steem (we are increasing our actions) and that is reflected in the SP.
It is likely that more questions arise, particularly I do not understand how the inclusion of new VESTS is handled, I know that in each block that is produced a set of rewards is added, as every 3 seconds a block is generated we can interpret that a good amount of VESTS per day, this implies that our% of VESTS with respect to the total (100% of VESTS) is continuously diluted, so I wonder why steem_per_mvests is maintained or varies very little? And is that if the value of the steem remained motionless we would observe that our vote keeping the same amount of SP would not vary either, I do not understand how this happens knowing that my% of Vest with respect to the total is decreasing daily (based on my remaining inactive on the platform).
As shareholders we also have an important responsibility and it is to choose the board of directors that decides the direction that steemit takes, how do we do that? voting for the Witness that in our opinion contribute more to the community, remember that the top 20 of Witness has the power to approve a Hard Fork (ponto I do a full post for the Witness since it is a very important issue)
Definitely steemit is a new world for all of us who have little in it and we still have a lot to learn, so if any of my readers can help me clarify the doubts that arise in this issue I would appreciate it.
