Definiteness of Purpose, Motivation and How To Be Driven

There's one true fact about human's that is pretty undeniable

Everyone can have a purpose and should

Ultimately this ends up leading to a bigger question, that of motivation, how purpose plays into life and what it feels like actually driving rather than being in the passenger seat of life.

Definiteness Of Purpose as Told By Napoleon Hill

First off, if you don't know who napoleon hill is I would highly recommend reading Think and Grow Rich and then reevaluating how you perceive reality and what to do next.

Otherwise, napoleon likes to explore a concept he defines as definiteness of purpose, or quite literally, establishing a purpose and using it to motivate and guide you through everything.

When it comes to human excellence it seems that every successful person has some underlying drive or motivation which continues to keep them on a solid path.

Of course, there are bumps, shortcuts, and traffic, but getting to that destination, being the most important thing is what can drive someone for life.

For me, once establishing my purpose, it seemed to give me clarity.

I'm always moving toward my purpose and if there is something going against that, a negative emotion pushing me out of abundance, or day-to-day struggles of life that pull me away, I stop.

Why Motivation Is A Tool That Anyone Can Use

Motivation derives its root from motive, which of course, is a reason for doing something.

This means that in order to have motivation, there needs to be a reason for doing whatever it is you are supposed to or need to do.

Motivation wavers when we are hungry because our drive switched from trying to get homework/work done to actually eating food being the strongest desire.

Although, your purpose, if strong and clear enough, can even cut through the B.S. of needing a snack or binging on netflix.

So what's an actionable template for purpose?

  • State the achievement one desires
  • Describe clearly the quality and quantity of service
  • What is your mental attitude going into it and that needs to stay with this purpose
  • How will you adopt this spiritually and consciously

This is a quick synthesis of what napoleon uses in order to help figure out your purpose.

Although, I think it stems a lot deeper.

Fundamentally we all have a voice (or multiple) in our head, they chatter, wine, uplift, and lead to critical examination of most interactions or "memories."

Now, truth be told, this other voice is a very powerful guiding system. It leads to the thought of "what do I really want" and through both incorporating purpose, the above mental attitude, the drive to constantly get better, and using this moral compass can help lead a fulfilled life.

I've tried listening solely to this internal voice and it does work often times, although it needs direction.

Similar to breaking in a new pair of shoes, or getting a horse to turn when you want it to, it needs to be trained.

And then, in that moment of time, everything becomes clear as you truly have power over your mind.

The brain seems to listen, you control your thoughts almost, if not entirely, completely and everything that used to bog you down can be switched instantaneously by just moving back to purpose.

Define your purpose and let that define you.

It shouldn't be difficult, and may be one of the most powerful learning about yourself that you can have.

It was for me,

Austin
