Rio de Janeiro the wonderful city

Rio de Janeiro is the wonderful city. A fantastic, captivating and interesting place, much of the Brazilian culture was born here. There is a lot to see, like the architecture of various eras. During my trip I crossed people from Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil, Russia, United States, Japan, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador and even people from Germany.

It is a city that I enjoyed for 9 days during the end of April at the beginning of May 2019, it is wonderful to change the cold of Buenos Aires for the warmth of the Rio de Janeiro autumn. And when I have the opportunity to leave Argentina, I don't hesitate to go to Brazil, its landscapes, its warm beaches, its friendly and well-prepared people, its rich and varied cuisine.

The next day after this tour, we did a regular city tour of the city of Rio de Janeiro and walked the Stairs of Selarón, a Chilean painter who decided to pay tribute to the Brazilian people by decorating the stairs of his neighborhood. These stairs consist of 215 steps covering a total of one hundred and twenty-five meters decorated by more than 2,000 tiles from more than sixty countries.

Another place through which we passed was the Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro, with a modern style, in front of skyscrapers of the modern area of the city, inside you can see images of Brazilian saints, the Virgin Mary and the cross of our lord on the altar. In the interior in the part of the roof is seen the cross made in vitreaux.

Close to the cathedral are the Lapa Arches that were in ancient times the water source of the city of Rio de Janeiro and today are a monument in the style of Roman aqueducts in Europe but much more modern. According to the guides, this area should only be visited during the day and not at night because it is a dangerous place.

In the afternoon we went to tour Ipanema but our main stop was at Ipanema's Bar Garota which was the place where this famous carioca song was supposedly composed (by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes). We had beer, guaraná (a juice of a Brazilian tropical fruit) and a dessert of cinnamon and cream. The drinks were 9 and 8 reais, (2.25 and 2 USD) and the dessert around 10 reais (2.5 USD).

The bar is very well set at the time of the song and is very quiet to chat over a drink. They also offer a typical Brazilian churrasco lunch. It opens at midday, we were there before and we couldn't get in, we had to come back later. Very good attention and reasonable prices knowing that it is an emblematic bar of the city.

Obviously there are many more things to see but that will remain for a third installment of this travelfeed, although the best thing would be for you to come and soak yourself in the wonderful city, its people, its music, its food and its vibrant and colorful streets.

Also worth mentioning are the bars on the coast where you can have 2 small beers for 12 reales (3 USD) or two glasses of caipirinha for 11 reales (2.75 USD) or eat appetizers for 30 reales (7.5 USD).

Holy fuck! What's the name of the Babylon look-alike structure?

Hello pal. That is the Saint Sebastian Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro. As brazilians says: whe have the biggest things in the world and sometimes they hold true or are correct. The other big structure (white aqueducts) are the Arches of Lapa, that was the city's water system for about 50 years. Thanks a lot for your comment. Have a nice day and stay fit. Greetings from Argentina.
