First time i saw this image I instantly thought of the Gmail logo. Can it just be a coincidence?

Few happy chaps rocking their Gmail aprons. Well, in fact,
these are masonic aprons worn by The Royal Arch Chapter.

• The word mason means a construction worker who works with stone. He is also called a "stonemason". Freemasonry grew from the guilds or groups of stonemasons in the Middle Ages.

• They were called freemasons because they were free, they were not servants who belonged to a rich lord. In this way, they were different from other craftsmen who often worked in one place and had guilds in one town.

• The stonemasons tried to keep their skills secret so that only they knew how to do their job. This is probably why the Freemasons have handshakes and passwords that they swear to keep secret.

In 1717, the first Grand Lodge (the Grand Lodge of England) was formed. It developed into the governing body of Freemasonry in England. In 1813, it merged with a rival and is now called the United Grand Lodge of England.

• Freemasonry can be found all over the world in various forms.

• There are about 6 million people are Freemasons now.

• The Freemasons have many degrees but 33rd is the highest.

So why Red?

• It is the colour of youth. Generally, it represents expansive force and vitality.

• Red, the colour of fire and heat, is traditionally associated with war and the military.

• In Rome the robe wom by generals, was red.

• The colour of blood is naturally connected with the idea of sacrifice, struggle and heroism.

• In Hebrew, the name of the first man, Adam, is akin to red, blood and earth.

• This connection with earth may explain, perhaps, the connection of red with the passions, carnal love, the cosmetics used by women to attract their lovers.

• It is the emblem of faith and fortitude and, in the Royal Arch, of fervency and zeal.

• It has also a darker side, connected with the flames of hell, the appearance of demons, the apoplectic face of rage.
