I AM THE VINE: John 15:5
How about a tree all covered with fruits, only to find out that the tree has no trunk?
Seems very impossible to believe right?
For there's no such thing as a fruitful but trunkless tree.
Never will it happen that a plant would bear or support its
form without it's main trunk or stem.
Biologically speaking, it is impossible for a plant to exist with the absence of stems or trunks.
The trunks/stems supports and sustains the plant of the nutrients it needs for the plant to survive. Through the trunk/stem, the plant is replenished with the nutrients it needs through the transport of water and food in the phloem and xylem. It is the ultimate source and sustenance of the entire plant. It also provides support to the structure of the plant, as it upholds all the other plant parts together, including the branches. 🌿🍃
Same goes with our Christian lives, Jesus claims to be the Vine. Jesus is the Ultimate source of our needs in all aspects. He mainly upholds all the branches (this is us) and without Him or if we are detached to Him, we will not produce much fruit for without Him we can do nothing. He clearly stated this in the following statement.
Now abiding is another story. We can be perfectly attached to Him, but the question is "Are we abiding in Him?"
True, we all can be connected to Christ but still want to be the little captains of our own ships, the pilots of our own flights, still managing to get to the direction of our selfish destinations.
We can always be attached to Him...
but still our lives do not merely reflect the life Christ intended for us.
God wants us to live a life of victory and freedom, Victory over sin and freedom from the eternal death. A life of daily surrender to God's will, a life that pleases and glorifies God, and a life dedicated to serve and follow His commission.
"Those who remain in Me and I in them..."
So there it is, the conditional part of the verse, as this is addressed to those who will remain in Him. When we "remain or abide in Christ, we will produce much fruit"
Certainly, this is an open invitation of Christ for us to remain in Him. We all desire to be fruitful 🍇 and bloom 🌷🌸 in the "garden" where we are planted. Let's pause for a moment and try to re-evaluate ourselves. Are we truly abiding in the "Vine"? Let us allow God to shape us through our obedience and abide in Him faithfully.
