The Guava fruit is known to have many health benefits. This humble fruit is not just good for jellies and juices but is rich in vitamins and fiber as well. Guava or Psidium guyajava, which is known to have originated from Central America, has made its way here in the country and has been cultivated since then to provide fruits. Every Filipino kids’ childhood wouldn’t be complete if they were not able to climb up the tree and pick up the fruits. I myself as a child was able to have this experience in my childhood years and this is the only tree that I’m very confident to climb to since the guava tree is very sturdy.
The fruit has been long used as indigenous jellies, my mother even taught me how to make one. The fruit contains promising vitamins and minerals essential for the body, both in young and adult. Its health benefits ranges from weight loss to lowering blood sugar and even a rich source of vitamin C, more than that of citrus fruits can offer, and also rich in fiber.
Here are some of the health benefits of Guava fruit.
1. A Healthy Heart
This fruit is good for those who have hypertension. Guavas are known to improve the regulation of sodium and potassium in the body. The guava also regulates the lowering of bad cholesterol and triglycerides, two chemicals that are known to contribute in developing heart diseases. But if you fear of contracting any heart or hypertension diseases then you have to include this in your diet
2. Boosts Immunity and Healthy Gums
Since the fruit is rich in vitamins C, far greater amounts found in citrus family fruits, it is known to help develop healthy gums and improve immunity giving your body protection against diseases. Get your daily dose of guava for healthy gums and strong immune system.
3. Lowers risk of developing Diabetes
Due to its low glycemic index, it inhibits the development of Diabetes while its high fiber content ensures that sugar level in the blood is regulated. Never fear if your sugar level suddenly peaks, this fruit can regulate your blood sugar levels.
4. Good for constipation
Ever felt that your stool is hard as rock and it’s impossible for you to poo without having to scream and feel like you’re in labor? Then you are constipated my friend, and with this fruit’s fiber level, you are assured that your daily fiber needs are sustained. Having a hard time to lose weight? Try to include guava in your diet. The fiber found in this fruit is enough to sustain your energy giving you a feeling of fullness and it has less sugar content as compared to other fruits. The fruit can also aid in hastening your metabolism.

The unripe fruit has astringent and antibacterial properties good for treating acne and skin discomfort. Concoction can be made from unripe fruit and be applied to the face and body.
