Went Spearfishing Today and this is what I Caught - Big Island Hawaii

I went spearfishing today to try and pick up something for dinner for two of us. I suited up and jumped in and I normally take a few practice drops to get my body accustomed to the water. I cocked my gun and on my first drop in the shallows there were a lot of fish.

I settled in behind a small rock outcropping and there were fish all around. I never expect to get anything on my first drop and I was watching the Uhus (Parrotfish). Then I saw a Kala (Unicornfish). This is one species that I never ever shoot and I always wondered what it tastes like.

I lined up a shot and wanted to try and make it a head shot. I fired and I hit it. When I pulled it up the spear went in one eye and out the other. I never hit any fish with a shot like that before.

I had dinner within a few minutes.

I put the fish back on land and dove in to scout the area and practice my breathhold.

We made Sashimi and fried part of it. It was a great dinner.
