Seven opposition parties have given notice to Supreme Court Chief Justice of India Deepak Mishra for the impeachment. Today, a request has been submitted to Vice President and Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday. The leaders of seven opposition parties led by Congress have signed this order.

Since independence from British colonial rule, no major Indian judge has ever had to face impeachment. It's an unprecedented step as she is.

According to the Hindustan Times, the political parties that have been signed in the affidavit of Chief Justice Dipak Misra include Congress, NCP, CPI (M), CPI, Samajwadi Party, IUML and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

At a press conference on Friday, Congress leaders said, "It was very sad" to take this step. The leaders said, "In the face of the interference of the Executive Division, the judiciary can not uphold the independence of the judiciary."
