Caving To Nature

In this photo you can see the Similkameen River from an angle not open to the public. At the bottom you can see a piece of rebar sticking up out the concrete. That is the wall of a tunnel built on the side of the mountain 97 years ago in 1924. Scattered on the ground in a line towards the river is the old roof of the tunnel, and that use to be attached to the rebar. The trail is for irrigation and runs through man-made caves and tunnels. That stainless steel from 1924 was a much higher quality then what you'll find in a hardware store. People still pan gold from this river every year, and it is very refreshing in the extreme heat of the Okanogan landscape.
