Steemit Engagement Challenge Season8 Week1: What is the value of life?

in Colombia-Original2 years ago

Greetings Colombia-Original Community!

As a resident of Bangladesh, a Muslim-majority country, I have grown up learning about the value and sanctity of life as taught by Islam. The question of what is the value of life has always been a topic of interest and importance to me, especially considering the legal system and cultural practices in my country.

In Bangladesh, the death penalty is legal and is sometimes used as punishment for certain crimes. However, there have been debates and criticisms about its effectiveness and fairness in practice. I believe it is essential to have a nuanced understanding of the death penalty, its implications, and its alternatives.

✥ What do you think about the death penalty, do you agree or disagree? Explain why?

As a Muslim, I believe that the death penalty is justified in certain cases, but it should only be implemented under specific circumstances and with proper evidence. In Islam, taking a life is considered a very serious crime and the punishment should be severe, but it should also be based on fairness and justice. Therefore, I believe that the death penalty should only be used as a last resort when all other options have been exhausted and the evidence clearly shows that the person is guilty beyond any doubt.

However, I also recognize that implementing the death penalty is a complex issue that requires careful consideration and evaluation of the circumstances. There have been instances where innocent people have been wrongly convicted and sentenced to death, which is a grave injustice. Therefore, any decision to implement the death penalty should be taken with great caution, and proper procedures should be in place to ensure that justice is served without any biases or errors.

Overall, I support the use of the death penalty in certain cases, but only when it is necessary and justifiable under the circumstances.

✥ Is this type of penalty part of the law in your country? Do you think it should be implemented?

As a citizen of Bangladesh, I must say that the death penalty is indeed a part of our legal system. It is implemented in cases of murder, rape, drug trafficking, and other heinous crimes. However, it should only be used as a last resort after a fair trial and proper investigation.

Personally, I believe that the death penalty can serve as a deterrent to potential criminals and help reduce crime rates. However, I also acknowledge the potential for wrongful convictions and the possibility of innocent people being executed. Therefore, the implementation of the death penalty should be carefully monitored and reviewed to ensure that justice is served without violating human rights.

✥ Do you know of any particular case of death penalty in your country or any other country? Can you share it?

Certainly in Bangladesh, there have been several high-profile cases of death penalty in recent years. I know some of the particular cases of death penalty in our country. Here I'm sharing an example. Kader Molla was a senior leader of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami party, a political party in Bangladesh, who was accused of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. He was found guilty of multiple charges, including genocide, rape, and murder, by the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh in February 2013.

In July 2013, a Bangladeshi court sentenced Kader Molla to life imprisonment, but following an appeal by the prosecution, the Supreme Court of Bangladesh ruled that the sentence was too lenient and ordered a retrial. In February 2014, the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh again found Kader Molla guilty and sentenced him to death by hanging.

The decision to execute Kader Molla was controversial and led to protests and violence in Bangladesh. However, the government went ahead with the execution on December 12, 2013.

✥ Conclusion

In conclusion, the value of life is priceless, and every effort should be made to protect it. While the death penalty is a controversial topic, I believe it can be justified in some cases where the evidence is clear and the crime is heinous. However, it should only be used as a last resort and after all other options have been exhausted. As a Muslim, I believe in justice, but it must be tempered with mercy and compassion. Ultimately, we must work towards creating a society where every life is valued and respected, and where justice is served fairly and impartially.

Saludos.

Dear @cruzamilcar63,
Thank you for your comment. I agree that capital punishment is a controversial topic because the right to life is a fundamental human right. However, there are some extreme cases where individuals have committed heinous crimes that are difficult to justify.
Nevertheless, I believe that implementing the death penalty should be a decision made with caution and should only be used in a system of justice that is fair and balanced. Otherwise, the death penalty could become a tool for committing larger mistakes than the ones it seeks to correct.
Thank you for your well wishes and greetings.
