I just finished a 4.995km run that lasted about 0hh:19mm:35ss !

Today's Parkrun was VERY special! I've been trying my hardest every single week to get below the 20 minute mark and, every single run, I have come so close to it but been so far from it as well. Today was very different, I was so psyched up for it and was so ready to push myself right to the limit - I managed to run it 19:30, a solid 30 seconds under and to be honest, it wasn't too uncomfortable - I'm probably not that far from sub-19!

The conditions were absolutely perfect for running; pretty much no wind at all, a nice temperature, and very, very dry underfoot. Before I'd even set off, I just had a feeling this was going to be the one, and it was probably that mentality that made me push on as much as I did. I started really quite quick (as I normally do) with a first kilometre at 3:39/km, it probably worked in my favour really, really well as I was just aiming to run the last 4 kilometres in 16 minutes exactly and I had a 21 second buffer to do so! When I eventually settled into a pace, it was still very speedy, the second & third kilometres were at paces of 3:55/km and 3:59/km, and it wasn't until the fourth kilometre that my pace dropped, to 4:07/km (but I'll attribute that to all the overtaking, as I don't recall flagging). Just before the final kilometre, I was side by side by what must have been a 13/14 year old girl, and I told myself if she can do it, so can I, and I pushed on further in the final kilometre at a pace of 3:51/km. My max. speed in my final sprint was 2:40/km - I didn't even realise my time was as good as it was, so I was pushing for every single second!

I am absolutely over the moon! My training is coming together so nicely, and after every single run I'm starting to feel fitter and fitter. My Vegan lifestyle is paying dividends, and if any of you want to go the extra mile, I really, really recommend giving it a try (or at least going on a high-carb diet!). I finished in 21st position, and considering almost 600 runners usually take part, that's the top 3%!
