Light Dinner at HARU Café
Hi, Tasteemians. Heavy dinners are too overfilling. Light dinners satisfy our tummies sometimes. We came to HARU Café after many friends' recommendations.
The Cafe is owned by a Korean couple and this is the first Cafe. There is another one branch in 10 minutes from here. Their business grew only after a year establishing the first Cafe.
'Haru' in Korean means 'day'.
Since year 2005, Kota Kinabalu, SABAH.MALAYSIA, had opened its Industrial Park for SMEs and My 2nd Home Project, many Koreans had invested to buying factories and homes here. Hence, our community had fully welcomed Korean businesses locally, such as grill restaurants, hot pots, cafes, tour companies, grocery stores, to name a few.
The menu was only at the cashier's counter. They recycled brown paper and stick pictures on it, the menu items were handwritten too. We have to pay after we order.
My orders were:
Teokpokki
Teokpokki - the carbohydrate is soft rice cake, cooked in spicy red chilli sauce, topped with an fish cake, egg and vegetable roll.
The taste was like eating sweet curry, the heat didn't burn and although it was served in a small bowl, the carbohydrates were filling.
Price: RM24 (USD6)
Cheese Grilled Sandwich
They claimed that they used 3 types of cheese. In grilling this simple sandwich - mozzarella, parmesan and cheddar cheese. When we tried it, we felt like champions. Like we had won a battle, it was that good. Generously, they had salad on the side to balance the heaviness of cheese.
Price: RM18 (USD4.50)
Ricotta Salad
RIcotta Salad was served with cranberries and roasted almonds, and sliced baguettes. As dressing, they provided balsamic vinegar, which has a complex flavor that balances the natural sweet and sour elements.
Price: RM17 (USD 4.30)
Chicken Salad
To my surprise, this wholesome dish was cheaper than all the rest.
This Chicken Salad was served with lettuce, Tomato Cherry, Boiled Egg and Crispy Fried Chicken dressing with Thousand Island and Mustard.
Price: RM15 (USD4)
Here in HARU, we would not worry about eating and gaining weight because the Menu selections were healthy and delicious.
The drink we ordered was a simple ice blended apple juice.
We had a light dinner and healthy one too. A balanced meal between carbohydrates, vegetables and meat makes us happy, with this comfortable and deluxe atmosphere, really made us talk about it the whole night long.
The reason why we didn't order more drinks. A water station was provided in the middle of the hall.
However, I will come here again to enjoy the coffee. I heard from my friends that they have an item called Two Two, a type of coffee brew, is a must try.

This looks like a simple and healthy place to eat. The food looked delicious. The prices look reasonable too. So you had to go the water station and get your own water. That's different. I wonder what Two Two coffee is....
Hi, @blueeyes8960! Thanks for stopping by! Yes, in Malaysia, most local restaurants encourage customers to practice self-service (getting utensils and water). Few days ago, I went there again to try, it's called TWO TWO TWO! 2X espresso, 2x milk and 2x ice cream!!!
