Mountain Grouse in the evening sun.
Meeting with a Grouse on the way up to Tverrdalsfjellet.
On the hike to Tverrdalsfjellet, Friday 13.07.18. with my daughter Ida and Nero we came across two couple of Grouse with chicken. Each of them had 8 to 10 chickens. At a distance around 15 meters they who flew up in front of us. Resent years there have been a decrease in the population of Grouse, maybe because of little access of rodents. Therefore it was great to see so many in the mountains. Every fall, and until February is the hunting season with and without a dog.
Higher up, roughly at 1000 meters we met this bird. Probably a chicken. When i came closer the Grouse jump to another stone and held a distance on around 30 meters. I tried again and the bird jumped, I stopped and and the bird stopped and looked at the strange animal in the mountain. I managed to came pretty close, and was lucky and got some pictures of the bird.
I thought it could be great to get a picture when the bird flew, and waited for take off. The bird took off, I got som picture but everyone was out of focus, because I did not remember to adjust the shutter speed. I was busy to look at the bird, maybe next time I not forget... :-)

Very beautiful shots! It's interesting that there is snow on the side of the mountains. Does it normally melt at all by the end of the summer?
It is always some snow in the mountains. Especially in mountainside away from the sun, and where the snow is packing. At the top of the mountain we had to walk across several snow fields.
Nice hike in mountains with a story. You have still snow there, in my country all melts in April.

Wonderful photos as usual. :) Capturing the bird in flight was awesome, but my favorite is the closeup of the bird where you can see the colors of its feathers.

Maybe not a very beautiful bird, but definitely cute and interesting and also fully prepared for the cold weather with those dense feathers.
Thank you, The bird is adapted the cold climate in the mountains where it lives the whole year. In the winter the Grouse change feathers and are white. The camouflage is very good.
