Small green things...

HP6A0336.jpg

A few years back we where attacked by hordes of little green caterpillars. In Norwegian called "Bjørkemåler". They eat green leafs and can make large area of the forest completely free from leafs, and leave the forest black. If this repeats over several years (3-5), the forest can die. In the area where I live there several areas with dead forest. It's also not nice to go hiking in the woods with sticky threads and worms everywhere. Hopefully it will be many years to the next visit.

Green regards
Harald

Great shot @harkar.
I really don't like caterpillars, but the shot I really like.

Im very glad you liked it then:-)

I was going to ask you if you had to contend with many pests in Norway, specially on your hikes. In Australia we have ticks, leeches, poisonous snakes, and always mosquitos.

We really don't have many pest because of the cold climate. Mosquitos are the worst, then we have horsefly and flies wich can be annoying some years. Resent years there are som ticks north of the polar circle, maybe because the winter is warmer. So I think you "win" regarding to troublesome pests. :-) :-(

Well Nero is a lucky boy that you don't have ticks, we have to treat our dogs with all kinds of nasty chemicals. We nearly lost one of them to tick poisoning, it was terrible.
