Phanthera tigris sumatrae is a Sumatran tiger species, originating from the island of Sumatra in Indonesia, is the only surviving tiger species in Indonesia, where two other species of tiger have been declared extinct in Indonesia, where two extinct species are:
1.subspesies phanthera tigris balica(Bali tigers)
2.subspesies phanthera tigris sondaica(Javan tiger)
Therefore, in Indonesia only the phanthera tigris sumatrae species are well known for the Sumatran tiger. Where the population is in critical category, caused by hunting, forest destruction as Sumatran tiger habitat, forest conversion into palm oil and illegal logging.

Physical characteristics of Sumatran tiger:
The Sumatran tiger has the relatively smallest body of all tiger sub-species living today. Adult males can be up to 60 cm tall and the length from head to foot reaches 250 cm and weighs up to 140 kg. Female tigers have an average length of 198 cm and weigh up to 91 kg. Sumatran tiger skin color is the darkest of all tigers, ranging from reddish yellow to dark orange.
Sumatran tigers are on the edge of extinction due to uncontrolled habitat loss, reduced number of species of prey and poaching.
The Indonesia Tiger National Recovery Program is now part of a global goal and covers six priority landscapes of this Sumatran Tiger: Ulumasen, Kampar-Kerumutan, Bukit Tigapuluh, Kerinci Seblat, Bukit Balai Rejang Selatan, and Bukit Barisan Selatan.
