Do Not Throw That Dime!

A few days ago I was surprised by the existence of two coins, each nominal Rp. 200, - lying on the edge of a garbage bin in a mini market, to be exact at the ashtray for cigarette butts.

At that time I just came out of the mini market after buying a packet of cigarettes and a bottle of mineral water. Incidentally, I intend to dispose of the payment receipt that I received from the cashier earlier in the trash can near the entrance of the mini market.

Not unexpectedly, I was shocked to see two coins which were of little value that were left just lying in the trash. As if the owner of the money deliberately threw it away.

Indeed, the value of money is small, but somehow I can't help thinking that until the owner threw it away. Is it because the value of the money is worthless so it is thrown in the trash. Though the money can still be useful for others who need it, or at least donated or put in charity box available. There are still many ways to make that money more valuable and usefull in ways that are feasible and not by throwing it away.

I remember ten years ago, when I gave a few coins each with a nominal Rp. 25, -, to a beggar.

Suddenly, he did accept my gift, but when he realized that what he was receiving was a few coins with each a nominal Rp. 25, - he spontaneously threw it away on the street.

Although at that time I saw his actions directly, without guilt he left and did not take the money. Finally, I felt a little awkward and ashamed when to take back the money, even though I held back my anger from being annoyed by the beggar's actions.

Back again to the story of two coins with a nominal amount of Rp. 200, - earlier, I finally took the initiative to pick it up and then re-enter the mini market and submit it to the cashier while saying, "Ma'am, I want to donate this dime!"

The cashier received it well and thanked me for my gift. It is a coincidence that the mini market is holding a moment to donate for the benefit of PMI (Indonesian Red Cross Society). My heart became a little relieved because it had made the money that was wasted earlier become useful, even though the value is small. (hpx)
