The Truth About PET Cancer - Synopsis
I was asked by @natureofbeing for a synopsis of this series, so here it is.
The series begins with a bit of history about cancer in general and what cancer actually is. It explains how the mitocondria is damaged and thus the DNA is altered as a result of the damage, rather than being the cause of cancer. In other words, cancer is not a genetic disease as some consider it to be.
Several veterinarians indicate that they are seeing many more pets with cancer now than they have seen in the past. In order to determine why there is such a dramatic increase in cancer rates, they began to look at the various possible causes.
Possible reasons for pets being more suceptible to cancer than even humans is because they are closer to the ground than us. Polutants that are heavier than air will settle closer to the ground where our pets will be breathing higher concentrations than we will. Pets also lick their paws, so if they have been walking across lawns that have been treated with pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers, the pets will be ingesting traces of these chemicals.
As an example of how difficult it is to avoid pesticides, they told us about testing some organic ice cream that was made with milk from an organic farm, yet they found traces of Glyphosate (Roundup) in the ice cream! They suspect that Roundup may have been used in a neighbouring farm and drifted onto the grass the cattle ate, then went into the milk and finally the icecream.
Although processed pet foods are convenient, they are heated to 400 degrees during processing. This heat causes carcinogens to form, just as the caramelization of fried onions and burnt steak become carcinogens. This heat is used in both canned and dried foods.
Dried kibble contains up to 57% starch, which turns to sugar (glucose) in the body and is what cancer thrives on. Thus, even if the grains used are not GMO and organically grown, they are still not providing the proper nutrition our carnivorous pets require. Pet foods that are labelled as 'grain free' still contain starch and will also turn into sugar.
It was recommended that pet owners only accept vaccinations for 3 of the routinely offered pet vaccines: Rabies, Ditemper and Parovirus. Not only that, but ensure that the dosage is appropriate for your pet's weight. It seems it is common practice to give the same doseage of these vaccines to all animals regardless of their size. These vaccines should also be properly spaced apart and not given too close to each other, time-wise. A follow-up blood test should be done to confirm that the antibodies are present.
An interesting story was given by a veterinarian who told of how they used to vaccinate cats at the back of the neck because that is where they grab the animals from so that they won't get bit. However, they began seeing increased incidents of cancer at the injection sites, so they switched to giving the injections in the leg so that if cancer forms, they can at least cut the leg off!
Another potential contributor to cancer may be the pesticides that we use on our pets for flease and ticks. These chemicals are not just toxic to the pests, but also to our pets. Recommended alternatives are:
D-Limonene, which is an extract from orange peels. Not only does this replace flea, tick and heartworm medications, it also helps to reduce cancer tumor expression.
Purlex Irritans can be used for repelling fleas. This product is eaten.
Diatomatious Earth is also eaten and is used against Heartworm.
Cedar Oil can be used on the skin to protect the skin from infections; it kills bacteria and repells insects.
A study from Finland suggests that including as little as 20% raw foods to your pet's diet showed significant changes in gene expressions. Ideally you would feed your dogs exclusively on raw foods and follow the B.A.R.F. diet (Bones And Raw Food). This is what your pets would be eating in the wild. Cats would eat the same except no bones.
They also spoke about epigenetics and suggested that nutrition is able to modulate genetics, so that even if you are pre-disposed to cancer, you can alter your odds by nutrition.
Studies have shown that early castration promotes the likelyhood of getting cancer. The organs that are removed are not only there for reproduction, but also for the production of hormones that regulate the body. Without these organs, the body loses some of its critical functions.
Pets can also suffer from stress (especially dogs, since they are very good at picking up the owner's emotions). They can feel the owner's stress or be stressed by the environment the owner places the pet in. Lack of exercise and irregular or unnatural sleep cycles can stress a pet. As in humans, stress can manifest itself in all sorts of ailments.
Pets and humans alike are exposed to a constant barrage of electromagnetic radiation. Cell towers and smart meters are out of our control, but shutting off your wifi when you are not home can be easily done. You may also want to consider using a wired network if possible rather than using wireless.
What can one do once the pet already has cancer?
Since cancer cells feed only on sugar, while normal cells are able to switch to eating ketones, one can attempt to starve the cancer by inducing a state of ketosis. This is accomplished by fasting and eating a diet rich in good fats, while eliminating any foods that turn to sugar. The liver turns fats into ketones and releases these into the blood for the normal cells to eat.
There seems to be good success in using a hyperbaric chamber in combination with a ketogenic lifestyle for treating cancer in both animals and pets.
Cannabis has been shown to stop the growth of blood cells that the cancer induces to grow to feed itself. This interrupts the growth of cancer and eventually kills it.
And lastly, there is surgery. A new type of surgery has been used successfully on many pets using cryosurgery. Rather than cutting out cancer cells, they are simply frozen and allowed to be gradually removed by the body. Cryosurgery is less invasive and safer than using a knife.

More cancer cases lately may have something to do with the nutrition nowadays! Chemistry of all kinds helps the productivity not necessarily the quality of the nutrition that could be one of the reasons of increased cancer cases.
I tend to agree with you. Too many preservatives and not enough nutrients. The food we eat these days is just filler and we end up being malnourished. I was just reading something in a newspaper yesterday about the cocktail of pesticides we eat. The testing done for these pesticide residue 'safe limits' is done with only one pesticide at a time. We really have no idea what the combination of pesticides from the various foods we eat will do when they all collect together in our bodies. There is no allowance made for that. So the safe limits are rather arbitrary and likely far too lax.
