#Weekendfreewrite: When Love Can Never Be Gone
Richard loved to surprise her, she was learning to accept his passing even after 1.5 years, or so she thought. She was still very much in mourning and grieving. She would visit his favorite places like the arcade and the swimming pool, their favorite dating diner and sometimes watched movies that he really liked when he was alive, but alone now. He used to leave small notes for her everywhere when he was alive and well. He loved to bring her flowers and left them at the most unexpected places. Once, she found them in the bathroom, out of nowhere. She smiled a lot at them, well used to. That was all the way till he gave her the worst surprise of all - his sudden death.
Janet hated the fact the God took him away. She was basically angry with God that he is now gone. She was bitter and did not let any light to come into her life ever since. She shut all the windows, hardly speak to anyone ever since. After all, she had made Richard her whole world before that.
She started taking up a lot of bad habits. Washing her face with tears day and night was just a usual routine and nothing new about that since it had been happening every day. She started to drink, to forget the pain and regret. She started to not be eating on time, she started to watch sad shows to "indulge" in the sorrow. There were anti-depressants given to her by her doctor colleagues who are concerned. Perhaps, she was just afraid she would forget about him one day. She had to do everything she could think of to keep him "alive" in her memory because she could feel that even the memories, her memories were starting to fade. Janet avoided everyone, including their own children. She told them she was learning to accept his absence, so she needed to be alone. It was as if her depression was to punish herself for not being there when he died, of a sudden car accident. It happened when he was traveling for work for just a short 3 days and she experienced the worst shock of her life. Janet was supposed to go with him but she was needed in the hospital emergency for her nurse duty. She really wished she went with him, or rather died with him. She was not ready for that at all. Who would ever be? She was supposed to grow old together with him. Of course, her children were very very worried. They had talked with her gently, they had dragged her out to where the sunshine still is, they had tried to force her to stay with them.
All these blues continued all the way till an old letter from Amsterdam arrived. It goes like this:
"Dear the love of my life, Janet darling,
Hey are you surprised? I have arranged for this surprise note to be sent from Amsterdam 2 years from now, because I know you can almost figure out where and where my notes are coming from or are going to be. So, I ask Ben to send it out exactly 1.5 years after I leacve this city because it is going to be our 40th wedding anniversary really soon by now, I believe.
I miss you very much and wish you are here with me. Amsterdam is such a beautiful city to explore. Everywhere I go, I wish you get to see it with me. But I know your duty as a nurse. You love it almost as much as you love me. Remember, when you skipped our last anniversary date just to save some dying patient, who refused to eat? Remember, when you tried so hard to convince that patient who needed comfort to just let go of his sorrows? I have never seen any nurse more dedicated than you.
Okay, here are some photos I have taken here, I always leave a space for you beside me even when you aren't with me, I feel that you are. Perhaps because of what we always say: Take a piece of me with you whenever you go, because you and I are one. I guess we can never be separated. Not by distance, not by disagreements, not even by death.
I love you dearly, always and forever, darling. Can't wait to be back to see you and give you this pearl necklace that you always love!
Love,
Your Richard always"
Of course, Janet cried like a baby. She was suprised by Richard again, even after he is already gone. This is perhaps the last surprise he could give her and it was least expected. The only thing different this time, a smile crossed her face after this long. She was ready again, to face the world with sunshine, to live with a piece of Richard with her, because they are one, never separated. She picked up her phone and texted, "Hello children, let's meet. I feel like celebrating Father's day today, if it is okay with you."

Oops, I took an extra 2 minutes to do the formatting of the letter and tried to tie everything together. The first and third prompt could flow together because I was writing this fiction based on my favorite movie I watched last time, P.S. I love you but the second prompt was a bit difficult.
If you yet to know, #weekendfreewrite is a bit more tricky and challenging than the usual single prompt freewrite. We are supposed to read the first prompt and write for a good 5 minutes, then take a look at the second prompt to continue the story for another 5 minutes. Sometimes, it may give a different twist. Finally, we are to tie the whole story up with the 3rd prompt in another 5 minutes.
The prompt for this weekend's freewrite are as below:
Prompt 1: Richard loved to surprise her, she was learning
Prompt 2: She started taking up a lot of bad habits.
Prompt 3: an old letter from Amsterdam
Freewrite is a prompt writing initiated by @mariannewest and @improv to write a free-flow post without correcting or editing. I checked out her post to really get what it is before I jumped on the bandwagon. This is such a sweet yet touching freewrite. I am glad Janet get to meet the sunshine again and even have the courage to celebrate Father's Day. 😍
Wow... this is really good!
What a sweet, and sad story. And a reminder to cherish every moment with loved ones, you never know when that time may be over. ♥
@happycrazycon this is superb indeed. 3 part prompt! Really well done the way the story flowed together. Keep it up! You write very well.
Oh thank you soooo much for visiting me @khimgoh!! You are very kind with your words. Sometimes, when I can recall any movie I have watched, I try to get some storyline here and there :P
