The Underprivileged are Gradually Gaining Self-sufficience

Welcome to today's new blog. Hope your day is going well. My day is going well. Today I will tell you the way of the poor people of the village becoming prosperous.

Many people in Bangladesh still live in the poverty line. Besides the government, various NGOs are helping. One such NGO is Caritas. Today I will tell you how they are making the poor people of a village prosperous.

Manik khali is a village located in Ramzan Nagar union number 6 of Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira district of southern Bangladesh. 350 poor and helpless families live in this village. Out of these 350 families, 22 are Rishi families. 80 per cent of the families in this village live below the poverty line. All these families live in extreme hardship through day wages, saloon shops, small businesses and small-scale agriculture. Children cannot be taught to read and write properly due to financial poverty and poverty.

Caritas has been implementing various activities of the project in Manik Khali village since July 2022 through Community-led Sustainable Livelihoods and Sustainability Program (CSLRP) in the Khulna region. At the beginning of the project, 2 groups of 70 people were formed for the financial and social development of Rishi and other communities.

They are encouraged to develop through various meetings, gatherings, peer learning sessions, and seminars. As a result, thinking about the stability and self-reliance of these backward people, Shapla Savings Group was formed in September 2022 by combining the members of 2 groups of parties. In the initial phase, Caritas staff provided comprehensive support to teach them the rules and procedures of the savings team. Moreover, the savings group made a guideline to guide the swing.

Not only that but also formed a management committee with 7 members (President, co-president, secretary, cashier and 2 observers). This efficient management committee has been carrying out all the activities of the savings team with full support and they can do all the activities of the savings team without the help of others. Moreover, Caritas CSLRP staff and officials have been monitoring the progress of this Shapla collection team and providing necessary guidance support at various times. These Shapla Savings Groups see their own money as the only tool for social development. Considering it as a path, they are actively performing their duties.

So far 3 members of the Shapla Savings Team have taken loans and invested in various growth projects like - salon shops, bamboo cane works small businesses etc. This great initiative of Manik Khali's Shapla Savings group is starting to attract the attention of the people of another area. Because most of the members have learned to realize that this Shapla saving swing is their absolute need and through it, they will be able to stand on their own feet. They say self-help savings is our money our profit and micro-credit society is our money other people's profit. So we hope that within the next three years, we will be able to run on our own without the complete assistance of others. This Shapla Savings Group will be the only driving force for the salvation of the poor people of Manik Khali village and the progress of self-reliance.
