It is a traditional thing in Thailand that the Monks do there early morning walk weather it be in the local suburbs of the big cities or the smaller farm villages it's a custom for the Thai people to line the streets and wait for the Monks to accept there foods and in return the Thai people will receive there blessing from the Monks.
I think what I have seen was in Tibet. I think the narrator said that the monks daily nutrition depends mostly on these donations. Those were youg children though. I know monks are mostly self ... I don't know the word. I mean they take care of themselves, work the garden for food, some have animals etc. Is that correct?
Yes you are right about that they are taught from young to do these things for self - disciplined and survival to care for themselves is to care for others is one the monks saying :)
