Travel and Leisure 3: My trip to Pamukkale - Turkey

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

In the same week after visiting Cappadoccia, we decided to visit Pamukkale. It is a very beautiful town in western Turkey. A decent small town with less population, but with very rich history. Cotton white with hot springs and the right choice for the autumn or winter season. Also known with its hugely impressive roman history.

We took a three days trip. We spent one night in the hotel and the rest of the time in the bus. It was a bit exhausting, but worth the visit. At least we could relax in the different pools in the hotel. Roman pool, Turkish Hammam and normal swimming pools.

We were lucky this time and the bus wasn't full, so we had extra seats where we could sleep on our way. We reached Izmir in the early morning and had Turkish breakfast in one of the coffee shops on the sea side. They let us walk a bit in the city center, but everything was still closed.

After Izmir we went to Antalya. It is the best place to have a holiday, swim and spend your time on the beach. I wasn't really in mood to swim, so I had a coffee while reading a book. My friends went to swim. They gave us just one hour time for swimming and having some free time.

After having traditional Turkish food in Antalya, it took us hours to reach our Hotel in Pamukkale. Heavy traffic and boring long waiting hours. We reached the hotel at 11 o'clock and they were so nice to keep the buffet open for us. We had dinner than went to the Roman and Turkish Hammam that they left open for us as well.

In the next day they took us to see the Roman ruins where the Romans built the nearby spa city of Hierapolis. It was very hot there and we were exposed to direct sunlight. First we visited the Amphitheater that was located in the middle of Hierapolis.

While you are walking the remains of the ancient city, you feel like you are having a trip through time. Great architecture that is well preserved. To follow the footsteps of the Ancients and walk on the same roadways is an unforgettable experience.

Unfortunately we didnt had enough time to see everything. It was a huge place and you need a full day to discover it. The ruins in Hieropolis are worth seeing and exploring.

After Hierapolis we went to the Travertine terrace formations. It looks like snow from a distance but it's not. Its magnificent! It was a great experience to walk in the warm terrace pools. A bit slippery, but also rough underfoot.

Many souvenir shops, restaurants and coffee shops around the place. Tourists from all over the world. Enough security was taken so that nobody slips down.
If you decide bathing in Cleopatra's pool you need to pay 35 Turkish Lira extra.

You must visit, it is a great country. After April the weather will be warm again, so it will be a good opportunity!

Okay! April! Thanks for the advice!

Heya, just swinging by to let you know you're being featured in our Daily Travel Digest!

Oh thats amazing! Thank you!

This is great! Is that you jumping or your friend? It's such a great photo. I love Roman history so much. Australia doesn't have many ruins in it, so when I went to Rome and saw buildings and roads over 2000 years old it blew my mind...

How old do you think that Amphitheater is?

Thats my friend. I couldnt jump with my long dress lol
Not sure how old it is, but I found in google that it was build after 60 AD.
Yes we have also many Roman and Carthaginian ruins in Tunisia and it is just amazing. Mostly in every city and we are still using the theater until now for the summer Music festivals.

Ah, I wasn't sure if these photos were taken over multiple days or not. That photo with your friend really is great, I hope she's happy with it.

It's incredible to me that a structure built maybe 1978 years ago is still being used today.. The oldest buildings in Australia are only just 200 years old.

No just 2 days. The first day and the second. The 3rd day we went to an atelier where they sell clay and rugs and spend the rest of the day in the bus back to Istanbul.

Yes she is very creative when it comes to photos :) She was very happy and we tried many times till we got it right :)

It seems like Australia wasn't having any known ancient history!

Australia does have some of the oldest ancient history, the Aborigines were inhabiting the land for over 40,000 years. The lived very sustainably and were nomads... so they travelled around never building structures or staying in one place for too long. Only once the European settlers came 200 years ago were buildings constructed.

Hahaha, that's great. I hope your creative friend continues to feature on your blog from time to time.

Ah thats amazing. I remember that I watch once a documentary about the native people, but was long ago. I need to watch some more to gain more knowledge about your history :)

travel is better education where you learn other cultures and much more. hope you had great fun..... nice snaps..

Thats true. Yes we had fun. Was a great trip :)
