These leaks were monitored by the newspaper on Beta Archive, a site that is interested in tracking and sharing the latest versions of Windows, whether experimental or final.

Theverge site has received a message from a Microsoft official telling them that the files are already source code for some parts of Windows 10, but they are originally part of a Microsoft initiative called Shared Source, where some parts of the source code are shared with other parties to improve it or Modifications such as hardware manufacturers or some government parties and others.

The official report of the British newspaper reported that 32 terabytes of data have been leaked, including some of the unpublished beta versions of Windows, but some other reports have reported that the vast majority of these leaked files come from files that were originally available for several months, Or even for years.

Andrew Weeman, the owner of the Beta Archive site, where the leaks were detected in an e-mail to Theverge, said the source code size was not more than 1.2GB and had already been removed from the site. He said Microsoft did not force the site to remove the code and that the site decided to take the step On an internal decision.

The leak came only a day after the arrest of two young men in the United Kingdom after they penetrated Microsoft, and while there was no information on how the penetration and how serious and what parts of the targeted from it, the company said that the penetration did not include the user data stored, But it is not clear to the time limit whether these arrests are directly related to the recent leaks.
