Art in Techno-Music #3
Want to peek into the progress of painting a vinyl record's artwork?
I was previously talking about visions of dystopic cities and gritty atmospheres being linked to electronic music and especially to Techno and Acid Tekno.
In this center label I've done for the Belgian Label "NARCOSIS", the idea is pretty clear.
So, it all started with a simple sketch.
Unfortunatelly I don't have the pencil progress but here's the first inking, directly on tensed (watered and dryed) 300g. Arches paper.
The first colours.
And the definitive work. Ready to be printed on wax.

I can imagine, seeing that voting value! I am indeed strongly influenced by lot of artists who were featured in the magazine, especially Moebius, Druillet and Bilal.

You're making me reconsider my decision not to listen to techno. For some reason techno always makes me feel all agressive, but if this is the artwork that represents it, then perhaps I need to give it a second chance.
The relation between music that might sound extremelly hard to some people and the reaction some have towards is very interesting. Altough it's true that some people might feel their agressive feelings getting upped by such music, mostly, techno events are much more friendliness oriented than let's say, the most "city-parties" where alcohol is everywhere and people being so bullying and unrespectfull, ego boosted. There's also so many different genres of Techno, from really fluffy almost ambientish stuff to extrem styles like gabber and even speedcore so you can find your fork, or not. But in most of these parties, at least the one I've participated, people are super friendly. There's also this attitude of staying a nice person while listening to something to makes you feel anger, agressivity can also be a boosting feeling, pushing you to keep up while violence is something else. There are so many artists who create really harsh music and are so sweet in real life, music is a mask you can wear during a show to say something. Hope you'll find good techno for you :D .. (Personnally I call everything electronic "Techno" :D )
I grew up in the 8o's and partied in 90's to bands like sisters of mercy, the Cure, heavy metal, grunge that was my happy place. Many of my friends would never go to the clubs I went to, they felt that the clubs were dark and dangerous and yet in those dark places there were less fights than in there main stream clubs. So I know what you mean about the most unexpected people being the most chilled. I have no idea why techno does what it does to me, but I'm always open to trying something new.
