Commission #13 A Butt Stick Siege Machine | Digital Art

in GEMS5 years ago

Do you want to attack a city or a powerful enemy? If so, I have the perfect weapon for you, you just need to have a tree nearby or wood to make stakes, loads, stretch the rope, aim and if you have good aim you can even hit the strongest and most feared giant in the butt. What a satisfaction it would be to see him run around in pain.

Ok maybe I am desecrating this weapon a little bit, shooting a giant in the buttocks would not be very proper for a weapon that @smanuels has called "Sacred Stakes Launcher", this is supposed to be a machine created by the believers of god to massacre the pagans, no doubt these believers don't play games nor preach peace and love, I can already imagine them blessing the stakes and praying for the blessing to fall and pass through every unwary pagan.

Description: a sturdy javelin thrower, made of solid wood and with gold metal details.

Tools:

  • Wacom Intuos 4
  • Photoshop
  • Medibang Paint

-Step 1:

In the sketch I was constantly fighting with perspective, I couldn't find how to position the weapon correctly, and everything came out crooked, here I only show you what would be the "final sketch" since previously I made at least ten failed attempts until I achieved what you see.

-Step 2:

I reduced the opacity of the sketch layer, making it more transparent, and then I started to outline everything correctly on it. For this illustration I was not given a very detailed description so this stake thrower looks very much like medieval crossbows, only bigger.

-Step 3:

Since the delineation looked pretty good and nice, I gave the flat colors with the "fill" tool saving me a lot of time in the initial coloring.

-Step 4:

In order not to leave the gun floating in the middle of nowhere, I drew a background, which as you can see, is a simple stone or squared concrete floor, some grass made quickly with an oil texture brush and some discreet mountains that blend with the horizon. I don't usually do this, but this time I tried to keep the outline as much as possible, so the additional detail of the illustration is minimal, everything was based on the lighting and the landscape.

I'll leave you a little gif with the whole process in it, so you can better appreciate the step by step.

See you in a future post!
