Hickory cabinets

in #minnow7 years ago

A friend of my wife's and her husband were remodeling their kitchen and hired me to build them all new Hickory cabinets and cupboards.

Hickory is a beautiful wood but very low on the rot resistance chart. Meaning it rots the fastest of all wood so I had to be sure that I got the
finish on correctly and enough to preserve the wood for as long as possible.

Also Hickory is one of the hardest woods (here locally anyhow). It took twice as long to build these cabinets due to the fact that I went through so many bades. I actually set the sawdust under my table saw on fire because I had to cut so slowly. It was up underneath the saw where I couldn't get the fire extinguisher or water or anything to put it out. My only option was to reach up there and grab a handful of burning sawdust pull it out then pour water in my hand to put it out. I repeated this process until I got it all. Scary time indeed.

Here are some pictures of the finished products.

Nice! If you were here you would've been hired a long time ago to do my Mother's outdated cabinets.

I can still do them although shipping them would be a problem (can't afford to buy that many seats on a plane) 😂

LOL!!! Silly Dawg!

You deserve a lot more upvotes and views than you have here, but I still like seeing your work and your projects. If you have a way to post 'in progress' shots I love to see the workflow for construction/builds like this :). Basically, I like to see the sausage being made.

Thank you. I've been feeling like no one takes an interest in my work here. I plan on trying to take more work in progess pictures in the future.

For fun, try doing DIY as your first tag. I think the audience there might be receptive. (I admit I have no idea, just trying to help though!)

Honestly I'll take whatever help I can get. Thank you.

Awesome work on the cabinets
Scary with the fire I hope you didn't burn yourself

No I didn't. Doing it as dast as possible prevented injuries to my hand. I just don't want to have to do that again if I can help it!

That's good and for sure not something you would want to have to do again

hi @guarddog your post is so cool, and Upvoted

Thank you very much!

Gorgeous cabinetry! Very nice job, in spite of the fire (>_<). I love to see good craftsmanship. :)

Thank you. I take my passion seriously. I love what I do and do what I love.

Those turned out fantastic, job well done!

Thank you so very much!

Thank you so much!

You are most welcome, I look forward to seeing your future projects.

All that hard work paid off! The cabinets look great. Are they finished with any wax or oil?

No, just clear satin Lacquer.
