On this day (1st of April), 94 years ago, one of the best Yugoslav comedian was born

Miodrag Petrović Čkalja was born in 1924. on April Fools' Day in Kruševac (then Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes). He performed in more than 90 short films, feature films and TV series for about half of a century (1950-2000). He often played roles of a 'small man' struggling with everyday problems, injustice and human nature. He was best known by his role of Živadin Jarić Jare, a truck driver, in 'Paja and Jare' franchise: Kamiondžije (1973), Paja i Jare (1973), Kamiondžije opet voze (1984) and Kamiondžije ponovo voze (1984). One of my favorite movies with Čkalja is 'Bog je umro uzalud' (eng. 'God died in vain') - 1969. film. In this movie he played two indentical twins, Predrag and Nenad, showing true human nature. He was winner of several awards for his work. He died on October 20, 2003. in Belgrade (then Serbia and Montenegro), and the whole nation was in grief.
