Random Fish Fridays - Longhorn Cowfish
Today on Random Fish Fridays, we take an in depth look at the Longhorn Cowfish (Lactoria Cornuta). This interesting fish is native to the tropical Pacific and Indian Oceans and can excrete a toxin to protect itself from enemies.
They will grow to about 18 to 20 inches in length.
The Longhorn Cowfish feeds on worms, small fish, mollusks and crustaceans and will often hunt for it's food by blowing water at the sandy ocean floor to uncover it's prey.
One more interesting fact about the Longhorn Cowfish is that if it's horns are broken off, they will grow back.

Yes it kind of does look like a spaceship or submarine.
Looks like cheese in the water :) Can it hurt human with toxins? When you see such a beauty in the water, the first thing that comes up to your mind - is to touch it :)
It does look a lot like a floating piece of cheese. I don't think the toxins are harmful to humans unless you try to bite it.

It is very clever, I guess that's why it has the small round mouth, to help it in it's hunting.
