Happy Halloween and Costume Tips From Skippy
Okay, so that was last years halloween costume, but it always makes me chuckle. Last year I won Steemit’s first Halloween costume contest, for the category “funny”, as well as our hosted Halloween Party.
In fact I have won first many times, and placed almost every year. Here are my costume party tips:
1) Make it, no store bought costume!
It’s kind of obvious, everyone has seen it already...unless you buy from a boutique shop that doesn’t mass produce costumes.
2) Go for funny!
People love to laugh, it will even beat the scary and creepy costumes.
3) Play the part!
Stay in character all night, don’t be one of those people who show up in costume only to take it off 10 minutes later. Dedication!
...and what I think is one of the most important:
4) Interact/details.
Like having something you can give out or consume. With Skippy I had a fanny pack full of jelly beans, I would eat them, hand them out, act like they made me all hyped up.
One year I was a crazy doctor, I would hand out Good&Plenty and M&M candies that were in old prescription bottles, and eat them all night. I also had a fake prescription pad and would right out advise to everyone. That was another 1st place year for me. Even something like being a drunk with a used bottle full of apple juice, go around pouring fake liquor into the kids punch cups. These small interaction details make a big difference, and it’s fun.
..but this year I kept it simple and went with a store bought costume, riding a pet dinosaur. Next year I am thinking Pee-Wee, Willy Wonka, or Michael Jackson.

You inspired me to share the one time I won a halloween costume contest. And I was even required to smoke my pipe to stay in character.
