This orange pool, found in the Norris Geyser Basin, is one of many hot springs pools in Yellowstone National Park. The pools get their colors from bacteria that have adapted to live in the very hot and acidic conditions.

Hot spring pool is awesome but bacteria isn't. Does this mean one cannot swim in the pool?

Currious mind 😊

That is correct. I don't believe that it is the bacteria that keeps people out, however. The pools are very hot (sometimes over 200 degrees Fahrenheit) and also very acidic. There are signs everywhere warning people to stay on boardwalk areas as the ground is fragile and a person could fall in unexpectedly if the ground gives way. In fact, someone just fell into a pool in June and was severely burned, and another person actually died last year after falling into one.

Oh wow that's scary.

About 5 H drive from here, there is a gorgeous and famous hot spring which we haven't been and my husband always wants to take us there. But with 2 little kids, I always picture Dante's Peak movie happening while we are in the pool, for some reason (I know paranoia much), so I have never been to any hot spring 😅

Maybe when they get a little older!
