Learn how to draw both Rick & Morty! - Step by step guide with pics.

Hello Steemonsters!!

Here is a guide with insight on how to draw both Rick & Morty!!

Lets start with RICK:

Everything starts with shapes. Map out the character into sections:

Once you have your shapes and symmetry lines your ready to tackle each section with more detail. Start with the face. Place the brows and eyes, the nose and finally the mouth and teeth.

Add the ears and then the hair. Lightly fill in the brows and hair. Retrace some lines to give it more detail.

I misjudged the length of the legs. No big deal just extend the legs another inch or so. After that draw the jacket. Start with the outer shoulders. Then the jacket lines from the top to the bottom. Then complete the arms. Focus on each line at a time.

Now add in some pants. Then the sock-part sticking out of the pant-legs. Add in the shoes and then go back into the middle and add in the belt, including the shirt lines right above the belt. Once this is all complete add the line for the back of the jacket, at the bottom.

Last but not least the hands. I personally dislike drawing hands, they can get difficult. Remember everything is shapes. Lightly box out the hand, then draw it one line at a time. Shade lightly the under-shirt, belt, shoes and under-shirt cuffs.

Almost done! Now ink every line slowly with a black marker.

Great! Just about there, now lets give Rick some color! Schwifty!!

Good job! Now lets add MORTY:

Remember everything starts with shapes. Sketch out the characters shapes and symmetry lines.

First the head. Start with the eyes and ear across from them. Then add the nose and mouth underneath. I found it easier to then add the hair and properly place the brows between that and the eyes. Lightly shade the hair and mouth.

Next draw his shirt. Start from the shoulders down. Then draw in the arms and hands. These hands are a little easier, box them out lightly so its easier to lay down the lines for the hands.

Then draw in the pants, the socks sticking out of the pant-legs and finally the shoes. Shade the pants and shoes lightly.

Awesome, Morty is just about complete. Time to ink the character with a black marker. Carefully and slowly trace all lines.

Nice job! Morty lastly needs some color!

*Side note on why I shade the darker elements of the characters even though I'm going to color everything in.
I tend to color pretty fast after the black ink is laid down on all lines. The shaded parts remind me dark colors are going there when I'm in the coloring zone. I used to go too quick and run the wrong colors into the wrong sections, so this helps me a lot.

Rick & Morty complete! Pat yourself on the back. Remember it doesn't have to be perfect, with cartoons there are no right and wrong when drawing anything in this realm.
