'Elemental Necromancy' - New Original Music/Song Idea Inspired by Splinterlands! Electronic/Instrumental + Walkthrough!
So I decided to try
and use the same basic format as yesterday's song (generally droney/soundscapey synths, and a single low kick drum, providing a heartbeat sort of effect), but alter all the actual instruments, and progression and harmonic/melodic ideas. It wound up being pretty dark, so although the original intent was another deepsea/nautical thing, I started imagine this as more connected to the Death Splinter, so in the end, inspired by the Death Elemental, I changed the title. This track also doesn't use a bunch of audio clips, so I'll be able to share the piano roll notation on each midi track, so you can follow along a bit more.

The song is pretty slow,
with Track 1 providing what were originally going to be the basic chords, but since each note takes 2 whole measures, wound up being sort of a bassline/providing the root notes of our chords that the other tracks will form. Track 2 is technically the bass part, which has a sporadic, weird swell effect, and the actual notes are staggered, so it sort of floats in and out of the hissy, more distorted base layer of Track 1. Track 3 is also pretty important, but again, is surprisingly sparse. This provides the percussive, retro sounding synth that accents the 1st and 3rd bars of each 4 bar segment.
Track 1, basis of the song.

Track 7, melody line.
Tracks 4, 6 and 7
all work together to give us the heavier, more complete parts of the song, with 4 and 6 adding to our chords and Track 7 providing a bell-esque melody of entirely whole notes, so it fits the plodding, creepy vibe. Track 5 is just a little transitional sound, to swell back into the main progression. That transition is actually my favorite part of the song, so as I work on this more, I'm gonna try and build around that, maybe get rid of the intro that has no drums... not sure yet. Speaking of drums, they're Track 8, and stick to just a kick, on each 1/4 note, except for certain accents that play a little 1/8th note trill, or the intense speed increase in the transition section.
I hope you like the idea so far! I'm definitely going to work on this more, fix some of the harmony parts that I misplaced, EQ/mix everything a little better, maybe change the format... we'll see what happens!
