Weezer - Across the Sea

Weezer is another band that has been

a longtime favorite of mine, and yet very rarely shared here. That's become a bit of a theme this week, hehe. They were formed in 1992 in Los Angeles, CA, with singer/guitarist Rivers Cuomo being the main songwriting force of the group. The band's early albums (and a few subsequent releases) are catchy, often relatively simple in structure, with heavy guitars, and a clear '50s rock influence. Their Blue Album came to define alt. rock for a few years. Their more recent albums are a bit strange, and inconsistent in quality; Cuomo began trying to write more pop songs, and incorporate musical trends of the day, which generally is a bit weak, at least in my opinion.

Listen to Across the Sea by Weezer here.

This song is from the band's

second album, Pinkerton, released in 1996. This is my favorite album from the group, and this song my favorite individual track. The album originally was going to be a rock opera/concept album (Songs from the Black Hole) about being stuck in space/on a space station, but that was abandoned, and they instead just made a typical rock album. This song tells the story of a singer in a band (probably Rivers himself, though maybe someone else) who receives letters from a girl in Japan, and becomes infatuated with her. Unfortunately, they are separated by an ocean, hence the title.

Enjoy today's song! Thanks for checking out my blog, and Steem On!
