Grapthar's Song of the Day: Aphex Twin - 'IZ-US'

Aphex Twin - IZ-US
Aphex Twin is another artist that is
definitely in Top 5, yet one I seem to not share here very often for some reason, so that'll need to change, hehe. Richard D. James, aka Aphex Twin, AFX, Polygon Window etc., is an English musician and composer, know for his highly original and groundbreaking electronic creations. He began performing music in the Cornwall rave scene of the late '80s and early '90s, where he developed a bit of a cult following. His early music very much fit in the 'ambient' sub-genre that was developing, but overtime, he began to create a sound entirely his own, ranging from spastic, wild rhythms and insane dissonances to the most relaxing and beautiful songs ever.
Listen to IZ-US by Aphex Twin here.
This is the closing track on James'
1997 EP, Come to Daddy, and is one of 4 tracks on that EP that are not remixes of the title track. It's a great example of Aphex's softer/chill side, and an incredibly pretty song. Like some other tunes of his, it begins with a child saying something strange, in this case: 'Stop making that big face!'. The song definitely has a hip-hop vibe, and is reminiscent of later artists like Fat Jon, and his Samurai Champloo soundtrack. This is the sort of song that I could put on in the car, and just cruise on a roadtrip for hours (granted, the song would need to be on repeat, lol).
