QUICHUAS: "A minority of height"

in #cervantes7 years ago (edited)

There is a minority group in society, which you probably do not know yet. They are the "Quichuas".

For five years, life has given me an unprecedented honor in my vocational development. Yes, that's right, my very dear readers of the Steemit community.

Together with my husband, we received a great call to work in the midst of a culture very different from the one we have been taught in our country.

One day, came the proposal to meet the group "Quichua" who resides in the Venezuelan capital.

In our effusive enthusiasm to meet them and see what was going on, we decided to travel from Barquisimeto State Lara to Caracas Capital District.       The expectations of both he and mine were somewhat out of focus, not knowing even the slightest bit about such.

We arrived one dawn and there was one of them waiting for us, who represented the organization to which we had been invited. It is a man of 1.50 cm. very thin and with a nervous smile. Very kindly he proceeded to take us to breakfast and in the meantime he gave us a long and incisive interrogation. However, his presence, his words, produced a peace in our being.

Finally we arrived, to a very beautiful building, architecturally designed with many details that make it very special. I was amazed at the majesty of the place, located in a very popular sector of the great Caracas, I began to imagine How had a nice building been built in such an unattractive place?

In that place, to which we had been invited to work, an important number of people came to receive us, that in my first impression, they were all "just like", I could not distinguish who was different from the previous one who would already have greeted me. It was a very strange feeling that produced anxiety in me in the face of the uncertainty of not being able to identify them quickly.

I thought to myself, why did not I take the time to read and document about the Quichua culture before coming to this place? & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; Uncertainty grew in me, as I listened to them speak in their complex language. I looked at my husband and I could read his pupil saying "I do not understand anything either".

So we decided to relax and trust that everything that would happen to us would be really good for us.
I observed with meticulousness the way they dress, the quantities of food they eat (very abundant), the way they talk and even the way they worship God. Everything is different! They are so different!

They were three days, of intense learning, of knowing them but not identifying them with ease, of conversing with them, but not remembering with whom I crossed words; everything was very atypical.

When we returned home, that weekend; We began a process of prayer for my husband and I to make the momentous decision to move to the Capital and work until we run out of years and strength with this wonderful ethnic group called "Quichuas."

The Quichuas are an indigenous ethnic group, which had its settlement in the Andean highlands of Ecuador. A small group of them, migrated to the Venezuelan capital, about 40 years ago and throwing their roots in strange lands, brought with them their culture to preserve it and not forget where they come from and where they are going.       A minority group in our society. Maybe you, my reader friend, have never heard of them, but today you can meet them through this post.

They are physically very different from the Venezuelans. They are very short stature, with dark skin, slanted eyes, big nose, black hair and very smooth. At first glance, everyone will look just like you. But over time, you learn to know in detail and you will see that although their features are similar, they are all really different.

Women have a very high tone of voice. They are very reserved, serious and prudent personality. But when you start to know them, you realize they are very happy and friendly. They are lovers of football, the central theme of any social gathering is summed up in the rival factions of the Barcelona & Real Madrid fan. And boy they know how to play soccer very well.

It is already five years knowing this beautiful culture, making me part of it and there are so many things that I have adopted for my life of such, because they are so great. Although they are a minority, I consider them a minority of height.

The Quichuas are a minority of height:

Because they come from the highest mountain in Ecuador. The Chimborazo. They are from cold and inhospitable places.

Because they are so hard-working and hard-working, that they managed to arrive as immigrant foreigners, fleeing from the circumstantial poverty of their country many years ago; and managed to settle in Caracas; that 40 years ago was the "Miami of South America". Achieving to build a better future for their children, doing business as prestigious merchants, investors; giving a wonderful touch of prosperity to the textile economy of our country.

Today many of them have managed to obtain good houses, cars of last model, the education of their children in the best universities in the country and their investments in other countries in foreign currency. (Nothing like us ordinary Venezuelans).

Because the premise of them is to honor God with their goods and with the first fruits of their fruits ... It has made them so prosperous in their lifestyle that makes them worthy to admire and follow.

They are a minority, a class of people who have known how to bring out the best in crises. To the countries that have arrived, they represent that working group, that working class, that hand qualified to work. They are so physically strong, I would compare them with steel, but beautiful like the diamond.

They eat large amounts of very balanced food, although they are small in stature; but there lies the secret of his extravagant force for work.

For me they have been of great inspiration. From them I have learned the art of working without fainting. I have learned to be giving, without expecting anything in return.

I have learned to speak less and to do more. Prudence is a virtue that must be cultivated.

This minority of height, celebrates everything with food, and abundant food. A birthday, a graduation, a quinceaños, a marriage and even a funeral is a priority to serve large amounts of food for attendees. And nothing is ever missing.

This minority group of society invests large sums of money and efforts to cross-cultural missions, bringing support to places where they have not yet known the true God.

A minority of height like the Quichuas, they leave daily to distribute food to the most disadvantaged sectors of the Venezuelan society. We are few but we do a lot.

Yes, and I feel part of them. Although I am physically so different and I do not have the physical resistance with which they providentially count; I have adopted a lot of their culture and I have made it so mine. The language little by little I understand it and I even sing in its rhythms and lyrics. Seen from time to time the costumes that are for them and their food is now my favorite.

Los Quichuas: "a minority of height" is a reality in my life and in those of us who know them.       Unfortunately, the Quichuas suffer severe segregation in many countries in which they have settled. For example, in Venezuela they are insulted not infrequently by people without education. They shout at them in a tone of mockery and contempt: Indians! Cotorros! Guajiros! Dwarves! Negroes!

My blood boils every time I see and observe such racism on the part of my countrymen. I become a fierce lioness protecting your puppies and proceed in defense. Although they do not need defense, they have learned to live with it and they already slip the shameless insults they receive.

The Quichuas are very close, they all know each other and promote the blood bond, they preserve their blood by marrying each other. So it is very normal to hear them call each other: Cousin, uncle (a), Taita. "They are all family of everyone."

When you get a minority in your society my advice is that you investigate it, respect it, value it, love it ... You do not know if it will be in danger of extinction and you can make a difference by helping to preserve it.

Millenary cultures like our indigenous ancestors must be highly esteemed and give them that bastion of honor they deserve in our society. And if they are foreigners, treat them as close relatives and in heaven you will have your reward.
