My quarantine story: Between fear and hope
Like something out of a Hollywood movie script, one day fiction reached our reality. What we thought was almost impossible to live with, today is the reality of almost the entire planet. One day we woke up with the alarming announcement by the WHO (World Health Organization) that the so-called COVID-19 virus was declared a global pandemic.
From that moment on, on our own conscience or on government orders, we all remain at home, refugees, hiding from a faceless enemy that claims hundreds of lives around the world every day. Faced with the threat of further expansion and spread, the quarantine was made a decree.
Without a doubt, a drastic change in our daily lives, in our daily lives. A mental, social, economic, cultural impact on our lifestyle. You don't get up at a fast pace anymore to fulfill your work planning, take the kids to school, play sports or simply go shopping at the supermarket. Now you're debating how to optimize your time, which seems to be going too fast, to become more productive.
...time to time...
It is ironic, we spend our lives complaining that we don't have enough time because we have so many daily obligations, and now that we are confined to our homes, time passes slowly, is consumed little by little, making fun of our anxiety.
Now, we have plenty of time. Hours, minutes and seconds, which like a divine message invite us to reflect, to learn to give value and to prioritize. It was not work that was most important, but family, friends, our affections. Those that when we were able to embrace, we did not have time.
In the midst of so much anguish, of so much pain spread throughout the world, of the suffering of those who today suffer from the disease or of those who have lost their loved ones as a result of the disease, many without the opportunity to say goodbye, we still have a chance, we are alive, and if we are, it is because we have a mission to fulfill with ourselves and with humanity... to humanize ourselves.
long live technology!
Technology today plays its most important role, shortening distances, and creating a window to strengthen ties with our loved ones.
My mother and brother are in another country thousands of miles away, and it is thanks to technology that I can still tell them how much I love them and stay in touch with them. I am overcome with anguish knowing that they are far away, that he, unlike me, cannot comply with a quarantine, since he has to go out every day to do his job in a hospital, putting his life at the service of others. But I am proud, because I know that like him, millions continue to fight and give their all, even beyond themselves.
As Gardel would say: «life is a breath»
Let nothing stop us from opening our hearts and saying I love you, or asking for forgiveness while we can... it is a time of reconciliation, of solidarity, of brotherhood.
Being in quarantine can be a sacrifice for many, a great discomfort for others, but there are those who did not have that opportunity... let us be grateful, we are in quarantine, yes, but alive and well.
So I do prefer my couch, my few square meters, my lack of sun, my extra pounds, my change of schedule, my long hours in pajamas.
I value and thank God because in this quarantine I can be with my family, take care of them, do elementary school homework, fight if they beat me at board games. During this time, I learned how to make desserts, now I even like to clean, and as if it were a game of supervenience, we even learned to comply with the protocol of entry and exit. Anyway...
You who can, stay home!
