Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans) is a plant in the form of a tree that comes from the Banda Islands, Maluku.
Due to its high value as a spice, nutmeg fruit and seeds has become an important trade commodity since Roman times.
Nutmeg referenced in encyclopedia of the works of Pliny "the old man". Since the time of European exploration of the nutmeg is widespread in tropical regions such as Mauritius and the Caribbean (Grenada).
The term is also used for nutmeg nutmeg seeds being traded.
For centuries, whole nutmeg spice has been used as a medicine that helps digestive problems.
