Weekly meme dump!

in #meme2 years ago

A few years ago I "cut the cord" as far as major social media sites are concerned and my life became a lot better as a consequence. Instead of wasting time arguing with strangers on the internet for hours on end I started doing literally anything else and even if that "anything else" was getting working on tomorrow's hangover, I feel it was time better spent.

These days when I have some downtime because I am standing in line or waiting somewhere for something I instead go over and look at the meme section of 9gag, which is basically the only social-media like app that I use at all anymore.

Here are some of the ones that stuck with me or made me laugh over the past week.

It wasn't that long ago that someone at some office told me that I needed to fax something to them and my immediate reaction was "fax machines still exist?" I can't believe that anyone is still using this technology and I wanted to suggest that instead of faxing it perhaps I should just transcribe my documents by candlelight using a quill and then send it over by courier-horse. I'm not exactly on the cutting edge of technology but come on!

These types of memes are referred to as "Dad jokes" and I normally get a kick out of them. Sometimes I'll be on the sofa laughing my ass off and they make me laugh a lot more than they probably should. I guess as I get older Dad jokes appeal to me more and more despite the fact that I have no children.

Over the years in Asia I have had a lot of jobs and one of them was a teacher in an elementary school where I taught English, Science, and Math. I had this idea in my head of respectful students who were going to afraid of the reprimands if they acted up but I got the precise opposite. Every single day my classroom was about 1 or 2 spitballs away from erupting into chaos and I spent a lot more time on discipline than I ever did on actual education. It is a tough job and one that I will never do again. I'll return to the USA and work in the kitchen at Taco Bell before I ever teach again. I truly admire those of you that can handle this job and whatever you are being paid, it isn't enough.

This one isn't technically a meme but it is still very funny not just because of what it says but because of where it was posted. It was put in a forum where anxiety about flying was being discussed and this person was clearly trolling. For me personally, I don't worry about planes crashing because of the statistical improbability that it is going to happen. I don't think airlines necessarily give a damn about their passengers but they are probably very interested in not losing their airplane that cost $30 million.

Also, if you have to go out it may as well be in a plane crash. Sure it will be nerve-wracking in the leadup to the crash but in most scenarios it will be an instant and painless death.

I love this meme because I love the movie it is from and this scene in particular. Also, the last 2 jobs I had before leaving the United States back in 2004 were with the USA Federal Government. The amount of waste and inefficiency that I witnessed first-hand at my middle-management job was just staggering. There was no focus on saving money or even attempting to be efficient. There was no end to the amount of money that we could spend. Nearly ever project I worked on went wildly over budget and there were no consequences for that happening. In many ways I feel as though the wasting of money was done intentionally in order to pull public funds from the system and put them in private pockets.

This last one made me laugh because it basically embodies what traditional social-media like FB and IG have become. A lot of people become "experts" on these topics overnight and will argue about them endlessly despite the fact that they don't have any more information than anyone else.

On a more serious note we are just beginning to have some freedom from Covid regulations over here in South East Asia and I would really prefer that we not have to go through that again. I wonder if the people would tolerate it again. I hope that they wouldn't.

I of course saw many many many more memes but these are the ones that for one reason or another I decided to save. I hope you are able to find some enlightenment or a laugh in them as well. If you have any to share back, please do so.
