Wat Kaew Korawaram Temple Krabi

in #travel7 years ago

Wat means Temple so I understand that the above description is redundant, before anyone tries to point that out :P.

I can see this temple from my porch, although it is not the view that you see above. I can barely see it poking through some trees in the distance. I drive by the parking lot of this temple almost every day and unlike some of the other temples in the region or even the country, this one is not terribly touristy.

This is my opinion and nothing official but i would say that the reason this temple is not very busy with people taking photos is because it is more a practical temple rather than one that is for attracting tourists. I'm not saying that temples are built for tourism purposes, they are not, but this one seems to have most of the areas kind of cut off from the public.

That is not to say that people will not be allowed in but I would be careful about where you wander in the compound because this is also frequently used for funerals and cremations and it would be extremely bad form to wander up on one of those and even worse to attempt to take pictures of it.

I have actually been to this temple more times for this purpose. 3 times unfortunately. Well i suppose having 3 people you know die in 14 years isn't so bad.

Anyway, back to the temple. The recently renovated steps at the front are nicely maintained as are the grounds at the top. This area itself is not very big because this is probably the most prime real estate in the entire city of Krabi as it is dead center of downtown. In that respect it is pretty cool for it to be surrounded by the hustle and bustle of Krabi (don't get excited, only 50,000 people live here.)

Overall i would say that if you are in Krabi it would be foolish to not go here since it is free. Just make sure that it is daytime, that you are dressed appropriately, and to not touch anything. Also, since a great deal of the compound is dedicated to preparing for the cremation ceremonies, do not wander away from the main complex.

As I have seen my fair share of temples myself, I am still impressed by them.

I think my favorite one was the silver temple in chiang mai so far.

i find temples to be extremely peaceful. it is one of the only places in this country that is quiet since the locals seem to really enjoy loudspeakers. Did you visit Doi Suthep while you were in Chiang Mai?

Unfortnatelty no. But it is on the list for next time as I enoyed CM quite a bit.

The silver temple was very peacful the 2 others not really as they were crowded with tourists and therfore with tuk tuk drivers.

A very beautiful and majestic temple, @gooddream. It is an architectural jewel. It seems to me, so you say that it is not a monument to be visited, but rather a funerary monument, a mausoleum. Although it would be worthwhile to admire the beauty of this work there with all the respect it deserves. Thank you for sharing it, dear friend.

I've always left my support on your post but today I made out the time to comment really, I think the first thing on my mind when I saw this post was that "why aren't people visiting"? But then I saw the reason at the end, my goodness this is one of the most detailing temples I've ever seen, I felt you really did Justice to the photography and descriptive aspect, wow, this is really amazing.

thanks pal, it is appreciated :)
