New on Netflix: 6Underground

in #netflix6 years ago

Let me start out by saying that this movie is neither good nor bad - it kind of depends on what sort of mood you are in. It's action-packed for sure but completely impractical with a typical mix of things that people like to see.

Mostly I consider it to be brainless good fun

It is absolutely nuts how much money Netflix is spending at the moment. This film was directed by Michael Bay (yeah, the Transformers guy) and cost more than $150 million to make. It looks like a Michael Bay film from the moment it starts and continues its rediculousity for the duration.

That photo pretty much sums up the movie right there. It's a bunch of shit exploding and gunfights and chase scenes from start to finish. There is so much action that when the movie slows down for just a little while in order to give you some sort of story to go along with it your dopamine levels drop so quickly that you find yourself shouting "friggin get on with already" even though the dialogue has only been going on for 12 seconds.

But don't worry... you could start this film at a random location without knowing anything about it and you will be at maximum 20 seconds away from the nearest explosion or car-chase scene.

Literally everything that happens during the entire 2 hours of this film is just absurd, and that is part of the fun. I think that there is at least a chance that Michael Bay was just effing with Netflix and suggested they give him $150 mill to do Fast and Furious but with significantly more bullets and even more absurd situations that defy physics and sensibilities.

If at any point in the film explosions stop doing it for you there are plenty of near nude scenes from lots of sexy people to keep you glued to the screen.

I don't think that anyone expects an Amistad type experience when viewing something Bay is involved in and well, that is exactly what you are not going to get here. The story is dumb as are most of the characters and all of their god-like characteristics are just annoying if you take it too seriously.

This is already being panned by all-too-serious critics but come on folks, it isn't difficult to tell from the trailer what you are getting yourself into when you finally sit down to watch this monster. It is a film where they had a $150 million budget. They spent $450 on the script and spent $140,500,000 on pyrotechnics, CGI, and Ryan Reynolds - they wasted the rest.

Screw the critics, I thought it was fun because I didn't find it necessary to think even a little bit for 2 whole hours.

Hi @gooddream
Wow. I was impressed. I wanted to see that movie so I can't wait long.

Ah yes!!

I have friends who have been linking this in our discord server where people drop links to what they are enjoying or looking forward to.

I am alright with Ryan Reynolds because he is rather funny and plays a simple kinda character. Mindless fun is a good way to go into a movie as well because anything better than that will just be a bonus.

I will have to work that into my limited viewing queue and try and remember to get back to this post and tell you my impressions.

I thought this was a funny movie but it wasn't... it was more actions, explosions, crazy stunts and story doesn't really matter kind of thing. But it wasn't bad either. It was just OK for me.

Funny; I was watching this last night. The entire time watching I thought to myself, "This is pretty cool, but what the hell is happening??"

maybe it’s time I get Netflix. :-/

I'm assuming Ryan gets to shine with his humor as well, or is the movie just all action all the time?

yeah he is behaving in a way at times that it almost seems like he is Deadpool in certain scenes. It's entertaining and worth a watch.

My wife and I were sitting at home drinking on Friday night and she mentioned that her friend had just watched this. I had seen it advertised on many of the social media places and I pretty much knew exactly what it was going to be like. After we had gotten caught up on stuff we had DVR'd from the previous week I asked her if she really wanted to watch it. I told her it was probably just going to be a mindless action flick but I don't really mind that kind of thing as much as she does. By then it was pretty late and she wasn't inclined to start a movie. We ended up skipping it, but I have feeling we (or just me) will circle around to it at some point.

well for me this was just the top advertised show in the Netflix homepage, i had no idea it was being released. I don't know if there was buzz in the US about it. I am sure it will be popular around the world and am kind of surprised they didn't take this to theaters, at least in Asia. People would have gone to see it as this type of film is very popular where i live.

That is interesting. I know there was quite a bit of buzz on my social media channels. I think a lot of it has to do with Ryan Reynolds being in it though. He is just such a huge draw for everything. He has come quite a long way from his "Two Guys a Girl and a Pizza Parlor" days.

i had forgotten all about that show. I remember being rather nonplussed about it

I really liked that show. I thought the chemistry was good plus I really liked Traylor Howard. Plus I think it had some early Nathan Fillion in it too.
