More beach experiences in the Dominican

in #travel5 years ago

Everyone calls it the D.R. or R.D. if speaking it properly in Spanish... by the way.

The beach I am staying on is not very good for swimming. It could be considered very dangerous or even deadly because no one is watching and if you were in trouble i don't think anyone would come to save you. I am a very strong swimmer but even i was not going to chance it. However, the beach had some pretty interesting aspects to it - such as this fella.

You've heard of driftwood right? How about drift tree! This thing was easily 40 feet long and the diameter in the middle was much larger than i could reach around.

According to my pals, it has been there for several years and I have a hard time believing that it is ever going to move anywhere seeing as how there are enormous branches under the sand as well. Apparently, it washed up on shore after a really bad storm and it has been there ever since. It is not rotting at all, i went up close to press on the branches and it is solid as a rock.

When i encounter things like this it makes me want to get a real camera because the waves were crashing into the tree hard every couple minutes but i couldn't capture this on my crappy phone camera. It makes me wonder how long this thing will be here, as it is being attacked by waves 24-hours a day, every day and it doesn't deteriorate.

Maybe it is boring to you folks but i found it awe-inspiring and a bit spooky. I will come back here in a few years and see how it has gotten along. I'll put money on it still being there since it would take a massive crane to move it.

One thing I really enjoyed about this beach (which was pretty unusable by the way) is the fact that there was no garbage on the beach. Nice one Dominicans!

Yeah that’s crazy nuts,. I’ve picked up small pieces of driftwood on the beach around here but nothing nothing nothing like that monstrous thing. It’s pretty cool. I imagine it will leave it spot the same way it found its way there. That second picture in your post is my favorite. I love how the clouds are shooting up to the sky in the contrast between the sand, tree and clouds. You really should get a Camera because you have a good eye for photography… If you took all those shots in your post .. wink wink. Nice find! No garbage? That’s hard to believe but I see the proof here in your photos.

oh, i hadn't even thought of that with the sky and what not. cool. Yeah, i think i will find a 2nd hand camera from someone when i am back in Thailand.

Definitely. That shot would look awesome in black and white.

This looks just like our El Salvador beach. No lifeguards, but we love swimming in the Ocean anyways, so much fun, but one time we did get e real scare when the ocean tried to pull us in and from that moment we don't go deep anymore but still enjoy the awesome waves.
Just like this awesome tree you shared on your photos, we have these guys here on our beach, sometimes even bigger, but it doesn't last long, since either people will cut it into pieces or the ocean will take care of it by eventually covering it all under the sand.
I have seen it with my own eyes, when our house got washed and half of our house was covered underneath the sand.
Beautiful shots @gooddream

thanks pal. I am happy that the tree has been left but to be honest i am sure this wood could be useful... that tree is super strong.

This makes me wonder how the tree was able to get it's branches buried in sand without getting washed away first.

yeah i know, i guess it just decided to park there and the constant tide buried it

This heavy tree will stay there till eternity and turn into fossils! Awesome waves challenging the dead old tree who refuses to give up its hold on earth!!

Wow! it's impressive that tree buried by the sea, and makes a beautiful composition with waves, worthy of photographing as you say, @gooddream. The rare things of nature, that must be a very good wood that is not going to deteriorate easily. All the photos are beautiful even if they were taken with your cell phone.

Just imagine that you are in trouble while enjoying the waves in middle, no one is there to help you, what would you do? I'm not going to risk my life.

Huh. Swimming since when i was a kid was something i really dislike because of the fear of been drown by water but i always admire people who always swim in the water but i can not because of fear

Yeah you are absolutely right. Some time pressure of sea water very dangerous for humans.Very strong swimer can't swming in the water.God gives you life only one time.Spend very safely.Don't take risk in your life. This tress 40 feel long.waves crushing big tress. And this beach looks really wonderful and impressive.Your decision is to good don't swiming.

What a curious thing! That's really impressive. On the other hand, if you have the opportunity, you should know other beaches of Dominicans, I have gone to several and I have loved being in them.
