Inspirational advice coming from unsuccessful people

in #life5 years ago

I read a story somewhere not long ago about how unsuccessful people are the most likely to be attempting to dish out advice to others and it sat there in the back of my mind until I started to notice it in my own FB feed.

We all have them in our feeds: Those people who feel it is their duty to inspire the world with some insight into well-being or some semi-patronizing advice about how you "should be" living your life. I normally don't pay them much mind and some of these clowns who are probably just bored with their real life even fancy themselves to be "life coaches" and yes, that is a real profession that people pay money for.

When I was reading this article about how "people who post inspirational quotes tend to be idiots" I didn't think much of it but then one day after a barrage from a few people in my feed who are constantly giving life advice to all of their friends on social media it occurred to me that these people haven't actually accomplished much in their lives at all.

Here is a list of their qualifications:

  1. one girl travels the world as a street performer doing fire shows and body-painting exhibitions. Most of these performances are completely illegal in that she doesn't have a work permit (that is an entirely different matter that I don't care to get into.) She is able to pull this off because she is quite hot.

  2. a yoga-instructor with very few customers who is married to a rather rich entrepreneur. She never has to worry about making any actual money and perhaps this plays a very big part in her "keys to happiness."

  3. a person who runs a charity that is operating under the auspices of being for the welfare of orphans, but in the meantime if it were to be exposed how little of the money actually goes towards the kids in question, she might be a bit of trouble.

I'd be interested to know if you have any people in your own feeds who are the same way but here is something that I think is kind of a universal truth:

This advice rarely comes from the mouth of people that are actually successful

I'm not gonna rain on their parades because I actually kind of feel bad for them. I think that maybe there is a chance they are actually quite close to depression or perhaps already in it and by offering "advice" to other people they are able to keep this "demon" at bay. It is very easy for me to look at my dog, exhale deeply, roll my eyes a bit, and keep moving. However, I can't help but notice that these coaches of life are actually pretty terrible at running their own lives yet feel compelled to tell others how to live theirs. Perhaps it is because the people that truly are good at inspiring others to greatness charge money for it.

I guess the quote is "If you are good at something, never do it for free"
I loved the character of joker in Dark knight!
Also what you mentioned is the reality of life.

good job! I was starting to think that no one was going to even guess the phrase. :)

haha! thankyou

This article is really great! So glad you are not amused by inspirational quotations or advice. I often wonder why people would need these life-coaches who charge lots of money to tell them how to live!

Some of my friends got swindled by this kind of life-coach and couldn’t get the money back for unattended courses! They became weaker and dependent on encouraging words of other people all the time! They got angry easily if we did not behave according to their expectations! Very awful effects on my friends; it’s like being programmed to be happy within a fixed framework!

I couldn’t help feeling annoyed by these self-proclaimed life coach or ‘know all guru!’ They do make a lot of money though!

i've always found it to be a bit strange that people can't find happiness and maybe they should get a dog. My doge makes me happy every day just by being there. I know that depression is a very real thing but my life is pretty mundane and boring (lots of internet, gym, and PS4) and i can rarely come up with anything interesting to compete with my pal's instagrams yet I seem to be considerably happier than most of them.

Life is a mystery i guess.

I think
You are blessed with the ability to find simple joy and happiness in life. Some people are full of ambitions that they are pressurized to reach the star . Hence they tend to suffer from depression and disappointment! Only a handful of people could afford the high and luxurious life style and all the success stories!

It’s all on the mind. When they don’t know themselves, the troubles and effort to escape from reality kick in! Life coaches can then make a lot of money.

I talk to girls and women behind bars to motivate them to aspire for more after freedom as I have been inside those walls. I am not a life coach but a studying psychologist. I believe that to inspire people one must approach them from their perspective and be very logical about what is real and whats not.

And yes I know of life coaches and the milions they make off their 'expectations' if I can use that word. I don't think that do much for people who love being real 🤷‍♀️

On my social media feeds I mostly see people trying to seem happy, in fact not happy..
