Hash House Harriers Jungle Run
It has been extremely rainy up here in Chiang Mai lately and this is exactly zero surprise because well, it is rainy season and this is exactly what we expect this time of year. We still run though and today we actually got a bit lucky with the weather although it was muddy AF.
In the event that you don't know what the Hash House Harriers are I'll go ahead and let you know. They are an international group of basically the meanest people you will ever meet and their slogan is that they are "drinkers with a running problem."
The Chiang Mai chapter is particularly active and we meet up 3 times a week to do organized runs in the jungle and when I say "run" I mean that we run as best we can. The trails are sometimes extremely difficult because it is jungle terrain and since it has been raining pretty much non-stop the past week the ground is a little less than solid
Normally our jungle runs would involve around 7 -10 km of running but given the fact that it is rainy season at the moment, we shorten the treks to around 5km, and honestly, there really isn't a great deal of opportunity to actually run. It is simply too muddy.
We do still have a lot of fun and the 50 or so people that turn up for these gatherings range in age from children all the way up to people that could quite easily be hospitalized by being involved in this.
At the end we have all gotten some exercise and then we sit around to say mean things to one another and drink a bunch of beer. It's really pretty awesome.
If you are a human and enjoy both booze and getting some exercise from time-to-time I strongly encourage you to check and see if your local area has a Hash House Harriers group. I say they are mean people but that is just speaking in jest. These folks are some of the most genuinely kind people I have ever met (in multiple countries) and it is a real joy to be involved with them, no matter where you are in the world.
while there are a plethora of pages out there, this is the Chiang Mai Hash Page
It's nice to see you are still doing this. I haven't seen a post about it from you in a while. That is impressive that you have such a large group of people participating. Hopefully things dry up for you eventually!
How nice to have such a fun group where you live!! This is going to be a sliding and falling run on the mud!
Used to fall down on a trail in Chiangmai with mud all over my trousers!
This brings back such fond memory.
Thanks!
I returned again after a long absence , I hope you have a good time I can have seen it
